Would you risk your friendship for love?

You stood in awe at those words, your faces still only inches apart. The words echoed in your head, "I'm in love with you"

You had never heard those words before. With Mateo, you never felt appreciated. He never spoke to you like this. Yes, he said he loved you often, but he never told you he was in love with you. Hearing those words from Spencer's mouth seemed to make you feel something you've never felt before. You couldn't even recognize what that feeling was. Your stomach felt like it was being turned mush and you felt your heart beating at an alarming rate. Were those butterflies in your stomach? Is what you were feeling love? Are you, Jo Blaise, in love with Spencer Reid?

Interrupting your thoughts, Spencer spoke up again. "Jo," he took a step closer to you gazing into your eyes, "I love you, and I have no idea if you feel the same way. I'm honestly scared to know your answer. But since the day I met you at the Bureau and you called me Doctor, I fell in love with you. I fell in love with every single thing about you. The way you walk into a room confidently, the way you call me Doctor, the way you get excited when you talk about your favorite psychological thriller books, the way you always let me ramble instead of cutting me off like everybody else, the way you laugh during movies, the way your laugh is always contagious, the way you're so brave and strong but are silly and goofy at the same time, the way you always tell me to not be ashamed of my eidetic memory, the way you're always there for everyone on the team, the way you care about everybody around you, the way you call me Spence instead of Spencer, the way your smile lights up a room, the way you put on a brave face for others even if you're hurting because you don't want anyone else to worry about you. You're the most beautiful person I've met. You're perfect and nobody I ever meet in my life will ever compare to you, Jo. I love you. But," Reid took a step back and shifted his gaze down to the ground before continuing, "If you don't feel the same way, I understand. You're my best friend, and I don't want to ruin that. I just needed to let you know how incredible you are and how much you mean to me."

You stood there speechless at his words, tears threatening to escape your eyes. Spencer notices things about you that nobody else does and he appreciates you like nobody else does. This was love. This was real love. Nobody makes you feel the way he does.

"Spence," you took a step closer to him, connecting the distance that was once between the two of you. You look up into his sparkling brown eyes that were inches above you considering his height. "Spence, I–"

Before you had a chance to speak, the sound of shattering glass and a gunshot caused you to flinch. Both you and Reid's heads turned and scanned the room and the broken window to find the source of the sound. But before either of you found it, another one sounded and this time you let out a scream. You turn to face Reid to try and figure out what's going on, but before you could say anything to him he grabs your wrist and drags you to the outside of your apartment door. You each stand behind one of the walls peeking into your apartment. The gunshots had come through the window, someone was targeting you.

You didn't have your gun on you, so the first thing you do is use your phone to dial Hotch's number as you hide behind the wall next to your apartment door. You waited for him to answer his phone with your eyes on Reid who was on the other side of the apartment door, also hiding behind the wall; his gun was in his hand and he was trying to figure out what was going on by peeking his head into your apartment every once in a while but avoiding looking for too long so he doesn't get shot.

There was no answer, why wasn't Hotch answering? You look over to Reid whose focus was on you. You both stared at each other silently with fear in your eyes as you listened, waiting for the third gunshot to sound. A minute had passed, and there was only silence. Another minute, still nothing. It seems that the perpetrator didn't plan on shooting their gun a third time. You slowly start to move closer to the apartment door so that now you're unprotected by the wall. Reid tried to protest you going back into the apartment because just a minute ago gunshots were attacking you both. But you ignored his protests, eager to get your gun and find out what was happening.

Before Reid could stop you, you slowly moved into your apartment to your bedroom, making sure you're crouching so you weren't visible through the window. You got onto your knees when you reached right outside your bedroom door, beginning to crawl to your nightstand drawer to find your gun. Reid was still outside the apartment protected by the walls.

Just as you reached your hand into the drawer and picked up your gun, your ears were impacted by the sound of an explosion and your body flew a few meters away from where you were crouched. Your grip on the gun was loose so it had flown out of your hand when the explosion hit. You blinked slowly laying on the ground, listening, trying to figure out what had just happened. All you could hear was a high-pitched ringing in your ears. Then, you remembered Reid. Your body was sore and your vision a little blurry, but it didn't matter because you had to make sure Reid was okay. The perpetrator must have thrown a bomb through the shattered window, and Reid was closer to the window then you were.

You tried to use your arms to pull yourself up from the ground, but your body was too weak. You coughed everytime you moved, but once you had at least gotten yourself up to a sitting position where you could look around the room instead of just stare at the ceiling, you realized how big the impact of the explosion was. Your drawer was broken, your mirror shattered, your mattress flipped over, your belongings displayed all over the room. You glanced at yourself in the broken mirror and saw dirt and some blood covering your face and body. Smoke surrounded your room and caused you to cough violently. You were in shock at the events that just happened before you. You always seem to end up hurt in your own apartment, the place that you were supposed to feel safe in.

You tried to get yourself up to your feet to find Reid and see if the perpetrator had maybe gotten closer at this point, but before you could even find the strength to get up, a hand grabbed you from behind and covered your mouth. You struggled to scream as they tried to pick up your entire weight and carry you somewhere. As you struggled to leave their grip, you felt a needle stab your shoulder. When you started to feel dizzy and light headed, you knew that they had drugged you. But, you didn't hesitate to put up a fight. You opened your mouth and quickly closed it again, clenching your jaw to cause as much damage as you can to the hand that covered your mouth. You tasted salty blood, an indication of your victory in biting their hand. They quickly reacted by retreating their hand and yelling in pain, giving you enough time to scream Spencer's name with your mouth that was no longer restricted.

You yelled his name at the top of your lungs, not hearing a reply. Dizziness started to take over, but before you collapsed, you heard the perpetrator say something to you.

"Ooo, fiesty. I see why Spencie likes you," you heard as you faded out of consciousness and collapsed. It was a woman's voice.
