Today was your first day back at work. You were a little nervous about the team judging you or giving you pity stares, but you were so ready to get back to work.
You arrived at the BAU and rushed to the elevator before it closed. You shouted to whoever was inside, "Hold it open please!" A hand held it open, and you entered, noticing someone you'd never seen before. It was a man, he was muscular and pretty tall, over 6ft.
He smiled at you, "What floor?"
"5 please," you gave him a smile as he clicked the elevator button labeled "5."
"Oh you work for the BAU?" He asked, sounding impressed.
You respond, trying to seem humble, "Yeah, I'm an Agent on the team"
"Impressive," he nods, "I'm here for an interview with Agent Hotchner"
You turn to him, surprised, "Oh... really? To join the team?"
"What, you already don't like me?" He joked and let out a laugh, recognizing the surprise in your voice when you asked him.
You smiled, "No, no, I just didn't know there was another position available on the team"
"There isn't," he mumbled as the elevator doors opened. You turned and looked at him with a confused look on your face.
Before you even had time to react, he pulled out a gun and shoved it against your back, "Scream and I shoot Jo" he whispered, maintaining a smile on his face, so nobody would notice anything wrong. There wasn't anybody near the elevator anyway. He knew your name, but you had no idea who he was. You stayed calm. The gun was placed low and he covered it with his body so nobody could see it.
"Now, we're going to walk to Hotch's office and you're going to tell him that your brother surprised you with a visit and you would like to take the day off"
Before you could agree, Reid walked past you and noticed you with a man.
"Jo!! Hey! Welcome back," he smiled. "Who's this?"
"I'm her brother, Matthew," the man didn't let you respond.
Reid raised his eyebrows in surprise, "I had no idea you had a brother! Why didn't you tell us he was coming to visit you?"
"I didn't know he was coming, he just surprised me this morning!" You said in a cheerful tone. You could have easily pushed the man away and gotten yourself to safety, but you knew he would start shooting as soon as you moved away, and you didn't want Reid to get hurt. You didn't want to put anybody else in danger, "Reid, could you tell Hotch that I want to take one of my sick days today so I could spend time with my brother?"
He was a little surprised, you barely call him Reid. "Yeah sure, I'll let him know. You wanna give Matthew a tour of the BAU?"
The man spoke up, "No, no, I'm good man. I just wanna go get some breakfast, I'm starving. It was nice meeting you."
The man kept one of his hands behind you with the gun still against your lower back. It looked like he just had his hand on you back, like someone would do if they were congratulating you or something.
You waited for Reid to pass, he looked a little weirded out by that interaction, but he eventually just walked away and went to go get coffee.
"Get back in the elevator, quickly," the man whispered into your ear, pressing the gun deeper into your back. You were in the elevator and the doors finally closed.
"Who the hell are you? What do you want from me?" You immediately turned to face him.
He gave you a cocky smile, as if he was enjoying this, "Don't worry about that, Josephine"
"How the hell do you know my name?" You showed no fear, you knew sociopaths only enjoyed that.
"Shut up!" he yelled, suddenly annoyed by you.
"Tell me what you want," you ordered in a calm tone.
He grinned, "It's not what I want... it's what Mateo wants"
Fear struck your face, and the man began to laugh, enjoying the way you began to suffer.
The elevator doors opened to the parking lot, it was empty. All of a sudden, a wet cloth covered your mouth, restricting your breathing. You tried to scream and push away, but the man's hand held it tightly around your mouth and nose. As you breathed in through the cloth, you began to feel dizzy. Your eyes shut and your body gave up; you collapsed onto the concrete ground outside the elevator. Before you were fully unconscious, you felt your body being dragged across the parking lot, bruises quickly forming all over your body. You were put into a trunk, and that's the last thing you could remember.
Spencers POV:
I never knew she had a brother. She barely talks about herself, she could've told me about her siblings and family yesterday, but she didn't. Why is she so secretive about everything?
I noticed Hotch on a call in his office. I wait for him to put the phone down before entering.
"Hey, Hotch"
"What's up, Reid" He looked up from his desk.
I explained, "Jo's brother surprised her with a visit this morning and she wanted me to let you know that she would like to take one of her sick days to spend it with him"
Hotch furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, "Jo doesn't have a brother." Concern took over his face.
My eyebrows arched, "What? Then who was that guy with her a few minutes ago?"
"I'm not sure. But she knows I have her personal history and family information. She's aware that I know she doesn't have a brother," Hotch expresses. I began to worry.
"Who could that have been?" I questioned.
Hotch tried to calm me down, "I don't know, Reid. Let me call her. I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation."
He dialed her number and put on speaker. It rang seven times, then went to voicemail. I look up at Hotch and we both have the same worried look on our faces. He tries her cell again, no response.
Immediately, Hotch and I rush to Garcia's office.
"Hi my lovely! Hi, Sir! What're you two doing he–"
She was interrupted by Hotch, "Garcia, I need you to track Jo's cellphone."
"What? What's going on, is everything okay? Did something happen to Jo?" Her voice began to shake and fear struck her over.
"We don't know, that's why we need you to track her phone," he ordered.
"Yes..yes... Okay, give me a few seconds." She began to type into her computer and a minute later there was a ding.
"It says her phone's here... in the building" Garcia said, less worried.
"Why wouldn't she answer it then?" I questioned, still concerned.
Hotch spoke up, "Garcia, could you tell us where exactly?"
"Yes. It... is...." she typed a few words on her keyboard before finding the location, "...in the parking lot!"
I left the room without thanking her, immediately rushing to the parking lot to make sure Jo was okay. I heard Hotch thank Garcia on my way out.
I took the stairs, I didn't have the patience to wait for the elevator. I heard Hotch follow behind me. We arrived at the parking lot and looked around searching for Jo. Where was she? I didn't see her.
Hotch called out my name, "Reid.."
I turned around and went to where Hotch stood next to an empty parking space. I looked down and saw Jo's cell, "(2) missed calls from Hotch" labeled on the screen. Fuck.
