"Mateo?" you whispered

"Hey, Josephine"

"How'd you get my number" you didn't bother being nice.

"That's a funny story actually, I was at the park and a chipmunk came up to me. This chipmunk could talk by the way. We were having a conversation and all of a sudden they told me they could grant me a wish, so I asked for your number and now here we are" he said sarcastically without letting out a laugh, "you really thought changing your number and moving a few hours away would get rid of me?" You could feel his devil smile on the other end of the line.

"I didn't move because of you, and I thought I told you to never call me again"

"Are you sure about that, princess? I know you miss me, you miss us. You know you'll come back to me, you always do. Who else could ever love you?" he said as if he was actually concerned for you.

"Mateo.. Please," you begged with a soft voice, "please leave me alone" your voice began to break as you tried to hold back a tear.

"Aw, baby. Don't cry, I know you miss me. Don't worry, we'll see each other soon" he said ending the call before you could react.

You felt your heart sink into your stomach and your head spin. You felt like the tears you were holding back would burst out, but you were at work and you weren't about to let your team, especially Reid, see you this vulnerable on your first day.

You took a deep breath and cleared your mind, deciding to deal with Mateo later. As you held the door handle and pulled it open, Reid stood one foot away from the door.

"Everything okay?" he asked

You worried that he heard the conversation, he was so close to the door how could he not. But he would've said something... right? Right. "All good. Just an old friend, sorry about that" you smiled at him.

You walked over to your chair and opened the file again pretending to look through it while you tried to get your mind off the phone call. Reid's eyes followed you across the room until you sat down, he looked concerned but stayed silent.

A minute later your phone rang again, breaking the silence. Before answering, you checked the number. Thankfully, it wasn't the same number that Mateo used to call you. It was Morgan's.

"Hey diva"

"Diva? Don't tell me you thought this was Garcia again" you joked

"No, no. That's your nickname now" he smiled "you're sassy, but badass. I like it"

You blushed as a smile formed on your face. You were starting to like Morgan even though he had such a flirty personality, which you usually hated.

"Alright prince charming, you got something for us?" You decided to play along

"Did you ask the receptionist about recent guests and the hotel's handicap accessibility?" Reid added

"I did, pretty boy. They said the woman checked into her room all by herself, and no man with any physical disabilities checked in that day." Morgan answered, "But, there was one man in a wheelchair who came into the hotel asking where the bathroom is. He didn't get a room though"

"What if he's making the women check in so his identity isn't revealed and then meeting them in the room later?" you explained

"But this definitely doesn't look like a murder scene in here," Morgan argued, "and if he's in a wheelchair he wouldn't be able to move the bodies in here all by himself"

"Morgan, forensics found something in the room, wheelchair marks on the wooden floor under the carpet" you and Reid hear Hotch say through the phone.

"I gotta go, we think they may have found something" Morgan said ending the call.

"We need to deliver the profile" Reid looked at you.

____

A day passed since you delivered the profile. You were all in the office that you and Reid had worked in looking at the victomology when Detective Reyes entered.

"Agent Hotchner, another victim's been found"

"It's only been a day, he's evolving" Hotch looks at all of you before he leads the way out of the office. You take three cars; you, Emily, and Morgan in one; Reid and Rossi in another; Hotch and Detective Reyes in the last.

"Who's driving" you asked.

"It's between the two of you" Emily stated entering the back passenger seat.

"Emily, you don't drive?" you asked

"I do, but I'm not in the mood to argue with either of you right now" she laughed, knowing you're both going to argue about who gets to drive.

"I'll drive." Morgan interrupted

"Excuse me?" you laughed "I think I should drive. I don't remember prince charming taking driving lessons in the Disney movies"

"Oh so that's how we're gonna play it? Alright Miss Diva, you drive" he handed you the keys with a smile as Emily laughed in the back seat.

"I like her, there's finally someone to boss Morgan around" Emily smiled

"Oh you know you love me" Morgan interrupted

"Okay, Handsome. Whatever you say." Emily mocked

You all laughed as you started the car and followed Hotch and Detective Reyes in the car in front of you.

After a mostly silent car ride with one conversation about how you've been adjusting to the new city, you arrived at the crime scene, this being the first you'd ever see in person. As you walked into hotel room 207, the first thing you noticed was the trail of blood on the carpet right in front of the bed, where the victim's body was laid.

"Are we sure this is our same unsub, this crime scene seems disorganized, unlike the others we've seen so far" Morgan announced to the team

"Check the thighs for stab wounds" Rossi added "he's evolving and getting lazy, he'll make a mistake"

Hotch spoke up, "It won't be long before there's another victim, we have to work quick"

You stared at the dead body in front of you and the blood surrounding it. You weren't as bothered as you thought you'd be.

"Hey, you okay?" Reid looked over at you as the rest of the team examined the body and talked to the hotel staff who discovered the body

"Yeah, I'm all good. I'm not as bothered by it as I thought I'd be" you replied with a slight smile

"Oh, well that's good.. I guess" he said almost as if it was a question.

"Yeah, I guess. I mean blood doesn't really bother me it's just the idea of someone being so f*cked up that they murder people and enjoy it." You realized you had just swore again on your first case with this team– you seem to do that a lot.

"Sorry, that wasn't appropriate. I have a bad habit of swearing a lot" your cheeks turned red in embarrassment but you tried to cover it with a laugh.

He smiled, "don't worry, I also have bad habits"

"Really? The great, genius, doctor, Spencer Reid has bad habits?" At this point you turned and faced Reid, your bodies opposite of one another, both fully engaged in the conversation.

He smiled and his cheeks turned red, "everybody has flaws, if not they wouldn't be human"

He gave you an awkward smile and walked away to Morgan to discuss the trace evidence left on the carpet.
