"Damnit," I whispered, kneeling and grabbing my books from the floor.
Soon another pair of hands joined me, helping me to gather up my things. I looked up and met with the lilac hair girl.
"Here," she said, handing me my notebooks and a pencil.
I grabbed them and put them inside my backpack, now realizing I should have carried them in there instead of in my own arms... yeah, everyone makes dumb decisions.
"Thanks," I said as we both stood up.
She shrugged, "It's nothing, really. I'm Franky."
"You're new, right?" I asked.
She nodded, "I am. And you're Lou. I remember... because of english class when you said..."
"I know," I cut her off, "and yeah I'm Lou."
She nodded awkwardly, "Well uh... see you in class I guess."
"I like your hair," I said, surprising myself at the impulsive compliment.
She looked as surprised as I was, "Thank you. I like your shirt, you like Nirvana?"
"Lately I do, yes."
"That's funny because well, my boyfriend is performing with his band on friday night, they're doing many rock covers and most songs are by Nirvana. You should come, if you don't have anything to do."
"Uh, maybe I will."
"It's at my boyfriend's house, it's basically a party plus his band instead of a random spotify playlist," she smiled, "if you do decide to go..." she said, opening my bag herself and grabbing the pencil, she grabbed my hand and wrote down a number, "just text me," she said, bringing the pen back to my open backpack.
I nodded and then watched her disappear through the busy hall. I figured it'll be fun to go and maybe take my mind off the memories that haunted me every second of every day.
Yesterday after school I had gotten rid of my wall decoration, I had throw it all to the garbage. Thank God my mom wasn't home, otherwise she would have asked me a bunch of questions and would have been all touchy and nice... which I hated.
All those pictures, the artwork, the silly notes Allie and Maya would hang on my wall when I was having a bad day... I even thought about painting my room of another color, or moving to Nicole's room as soon as she left for college... well, all the memories of ever feeling alive were gone.
It was a little overwhelming to think of what I felt... or didn't feel. It was like I was empty, which pretty much was upsetting, not being able to feel anything for real. I would get little tastes of happiness once in a while, like after detention the other day, or when there was something funny on tv, or a silly video on social media that would make you laugh... except those moments were almost none.
"We should definitely go. I heard her boyfriend is in college. He's twenty, I think," Allie whispered to me.
My eyes widened, "Oh my God, we're going to a frat party?"
"Not necessarily. Maybe it's just a bunch of losers having a concert. But still, we should go." Allie said, excitement in her eyes.
Allie was calmer before, if I had told her I had been invited to a party before, she would have said she would rather stay home or simply not go, but this new version of herself was... reckless. And I kind of liked it.
"Did I tell you that my mom is making me go to a shrink?" She said, rolling her eyes.
I shook my head no, "You didn't."
