DIANE'S POV

She was giggling on top of me, her head resting on my shoulder, while she supported herself with her sane arm, "Thank you for reading for me," The brunette said.

I had to smile at that, and I kissed the top of her head, "You're welcome. Do you wanna read another chapter?"

Lou shook her head slightly, "No. I'm fine, thanks. You're a good reader."

I closed the book, "Of course I'm a good reader. I'm an amazing reader."

"Oh shut up," She giggled slightly.

"Hey Lou..."

"Hm?"

I cleared my throat, "I'm so proud of you." She looked at me with a hint of confusion, but before she could speak, I said; "I've watched you grow from that insolent goth chick, to the beautiful girl I met in a cafe so long ago, but an updated version... I've seen you become so strong and I really am proud of you, even if you still have trouble concentrating, you're doing so good..." I caressed her skin, still holding her against me as we kept cuddling.

Laura's eyes shined, "You mean that?"

"Of course I do. You're still you, but I see you're progressing... I see you're getting better. You barely talk to me about Maya..." I said carefully, "but that's okay, you will when you're ready, and since I'm seeing you smile more often, I assume your heart's a bit less in pain."

Lou nodded, "Thank you." I watched her swallow, as if she was about to cry a bit, but held the emotion.

"You're so special, Laura. You are. And sometimes I do miss your little insolent comments, because they turned me on." We both laughed at that.

"You would have liked her. Maya, I mean." Lou said, showing me a smile that reassured me somehow.

I smiled back just slightly, "I bet I would have."

"She would have been your best student, that's for sure."

"Better than you?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Way better than me." She giggled, "I miss her."

I kissed her forehead, "I'm so sorry, baby." I whispered.

She nuzzled her face to my chest and sighed, "I just wish she were here sometimes. I'm not religious or anything, but I bet she's in heaven." Lou took a deep breath as she relaxed against my skin.

I relaxed as well and caressed the back of her head, brushing her hair down. Out of nowhere she looked up slowly, pointing at my wrist, where my watch was; "It's getting late, you should go back home." She said, slowly sitting up in bed, removing herself off of me.

I pouted, "You're right."

"You sound disappointed." She observed.

"I am." I said truthfully, "I would stay if I could." I said, standing up from bed and putting on my sweater, looking down at Lou, who was sitting at the edge of the bed, looking down to her lap.

She scratched behind her ear, "I don't know if I'm happy or terrified."

"Yeah... I feel that too." I said, kneeling down next to Lou, "Try to focus on the positive side. Okay? Just for now. I don't know what I'm doing either... but we're in this together."

Lou nodded her head, "You should focus on the positive, too."

I chuckled, "Yeah, I'll try to." I bit my lower lip.

"Can you kiss me goodbye?" Lou asked.

I nodded my head, and leaned in to kiss her. She grabbed me by the back of my neck and kissed the fuck out of me, to the point I was breathless, "Lou..." I managed to whisper, pulling away from her.
