It had been nearly ten minutes since the building detonated and there was still no sign of Deidara.

All around was the sound of car alarms and people panicking. Although it wasn't unexpected, it was certainly difficult to think through.

Worst case scenario, he was in a million pieces scattered throughout the wreckage. Laid claim to by his "art."

I winced.

Hopefully not.

No. No way. Knowing him, Deidara probably cut his losses and disappeared into the city during the confusion. I could imagine him chuckling about how well he pulled it off too.

Hell, he even refused radio communication because he was worried about the frequencies setting off the explosives. It would have been a nearly flawless plan.

If only it were that easy.

As much as the thought of him escaping ticked me off, I knew he cared to much about his brother to run off in a foreign city and leave Naruto to the Spades.

Killing the squirt as collateral wouldn't be an issue. Considering that Sasuke probably knows where he is.

Deidara understood that... right?

Now wasn't the time to get lost in thought.  Every second wasted was another that Dei could use to get himself in danger. No more waiting.

I stepped out of the car and tried to figure out where such a chaotic individual might have went. Somewhere high up? Maybe. Although he might not have had the time.

As I neared the scene of the collapse I felt a pit grow in my stomach. Sounds of sirens and flashes of red and blue filled my senes. The building that once stood there had been completely destroyed. At least I could report that Deidara did a good job. Although, I wouldn't have expected anything less from him.

"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say and do-"

"Oh yeah? And you have the right to shit in your hand and eat it, but I wasn't gonna say anything!"

Well, that was a familiar voice.

"Stop resisting!"

"Don't fucking touch me!" It spat.

I turned to see Deidara being cornered by three fully armed policemen outside of a coffee shop a little further down the street.

We met eyes.

"Hey shitass! Are you just gonna let me get arrested?" He called.

Not if I could help it.

"Good evening officers, it appears you have the wrong suspect." I began as I approached them

One of them appeared to not receive the message. "Stand back, sir. This man is a suspected terrorist."

"Artist." Deidara corrected under his breath.

I met eyes with the opposing policeman. "You've miss understood me." I continued. "My name is Itachi Uchiha. Although it may be apparent that we are not in Spades territory, I will personally see to it that not one of you has any next of kin left by the end of this week if you don't release him immediately," My voice was void of emotion as I spoke.

"Is that a threat?"

"Not at all. It's a promise."

The policemen reluctantly took the handcuffs off of Deidara and backed away.

The blonde's face held a shit eating grin as he turned back towards the law enforcement.

"My things?"

Deidara was handed his bag, and we went on our way. He was practically skipping as we headed back to the car.

"Thanks for saving me back there. I would've been totally screwed, un."

"It's not a problem. You're not hurt, are you?" I asked, scanning him for any signs of injury.

He shrugged. "A couple scrapes, but I'm fine."

"How did they even catch you?"

"Someone saw me run out right before the place popped. Fucking snitch," he chuckled.

I held the car door open for him before getting in myself. It was nice to know that everyone would be able to go home in one piece.

"Well you sure took your damn time." Grouched Sasori from the front seat.

Deidara huffed. "No need to act so concerned about me."

"I wasn't going to."

Kisame started the engine and we began the long trip home.

It was nice to see him happy. The proud smile that shone on his face as he recounted the story of his work was something I would pay money for.

As much as he was blatantly narcissistic, Deidara's personality was just so vibrant and alive. It was hard not to be drawn in my his magnetism.

"Feel free to admire me," he hummed.

"Excuse me?"

Deidara smirked. "You were staring.

In lieu of saying anything, I just turned to face the window. He was right of course, I was perfectly guilty of the accusation.

I shouldn't make it into a habit. Although, he really didn't seem to mind... This train of thought was a dangerous one. For now, I decided it was best to keep my thoughts on our return.

The ride home felt shorter. As sleepiness began to set in, conversation died down and those if us who weren't behind the wheel began to dose off. By the time we had made it to open waters and activated autopilot, everyone had settled in their respective cabins.

Eventually, morning came and I made my way topside to see that Kisame had woken up early to dock the boat.

"Sasori didn't need anything back at the office so he left." Kisame commented.

"Hn."

He gave me a mischievous look. "Deidara still hasn't surfaced. Probably waiting for you to wake him with true love's kiss or something."

Kisame may have been a close friend of mine, but occasionally I would have to remind him when he overstepped. I was about to inform of his unprofessionalism when I discovered that Deidara was very much awake.

"Shit, guess I'll just go back to bed then." he laughed, walking up behind us.

I let out a defeated sigh. "Just come with me."

We said our goodbyes to Kisame and called a cab to the office. Idle conversation slowed to a halt and it was barely any time before we were back in front of Pain's door.

"Here goes everything." Deidara muttered.

Although I wasn't typically one for moral support, for Dei I made the exception. I gave supportive hand on the small of his back and the promise that I wouldn't leave his side. It wasn't much, but I hoped it meant something.
