The room was silent after that. Even still, I bet you could hear my mental cogs turning as the realization  dawned on me.

"Holy shit. You guys are actually fucking serious." I breathed. "You want me... to become a member of the Spades... And join the Akatsuki?" The words didn't even sound real as they left my mouth.

"Yes."

This was unfair. If I said no, they would probably kill me, find Naruto, and then kill him too. If I said yes, then not only would I become a hypocrite and a traitor, but there would also be no turning back. I'd doubt these are the people to let you pay what you owe and then leave.

...but I still wasn't planning on dying today.

"Fine, I accept your offer. Now will you let me go back to my fucking house, un?" I asked, trying to swallow my growing fight or flight reflexes.

"Good choice. And to answer your question, it's a bit early to be putting trust in you, so you'll be staying here for a while." He stated blankly.

"Bullshit." I muttered, as something behind Pain caught my eye.

The window that Konan and Pain both had their backs to provided a clear view the entrance gate to the property. From where I was sitting, I could see a large number of vehicles approaching the gate. It's not uncommon for gang operated buildings to have offices in them, so I was about to dismiss it as just the morning shift for the people who worked here until Itachi followed my gaze.

"We have visitors." He said, getting up out of his seat. Pain turned around and sure enough, mild surprise flashed across his face. "I certainly wasn't expecting them to catch on this early." He said, watching as people started to emerge from the sea of around two dozen cars and trucks.

I was getting more and more confused, as I could see people running out from the building to meet the growing crowd. People with guns.

Before he could leave, I stood up and grabbed Itachi's arm. "Hold up. What the hell is going on here?"

He scoffed. "Take another look outside and see if anything's familiar."

I looked out at the mob again. Nothing unusual. Only Some trucks, a couple vans, cars- 'Hey, haven't I seen that hood ornament somewhere befo-'

"Holy fucking shit, it's them."

"You have an impeccable grasp of the obvious."

I could tell that Itachi's comment was meant to lighten the mood, but the way his lips settled into a hard line after he said it had me thinking that some serious shit was about to happen.

"Itachi, take Deidara to the safe room and make sure that he doesn't try anything." Pain ordered, before tossing him a key and answering his violently ringing cellphone.

I followed Itachi out of the office down a hallway and into what was definitely a bathroom.

"Seriously? Aren't we in too much of a rush for you to go take a piss? I asked, stiffening a bit after I heard the faint pop of  a gunshot from outside.

"This is how you get in." He responded before moving aside a fake potted plant that was placed overtop of a keyhole in the floor.

At first when he put the key into the hole and turned, I thought that nothing was going to happen until I noticed the bathroom mirror raising vertically in my peripheral vision.

I gawked at the now obvious entrance. "You people must really have your shit together, un."

"We do our best."

And then he fucking smirked. It's not like he hadn't done it before, it's just... 'Did that count as flirting?'

I didn't know, but I was fairly certain that my face was heating up because my gay ass couldn't pry my eyes away from the handsome man in front of me.

"What is it?" Itachi asked, giving me a confused look. "Please do that more often." I blurted without thinking.

His eyes widened "Oh."

Itachi recomposed himself before he moved the plant back to it's original spot and walked up to the mirror. "You're going first."

I raised a brow at him. "You do realize that if I try to escape the only people that I'll run into are the ones who A) don't recognize me, or B) want me dead because I'm a traitor, right?"

"Fair point." He said, getting on top of the counter and swinging his legs through the opening with me following close behind. Upon further inspection, behind the mirror was a ladder leading down to the
"safe room". Once inside, I pressed the button clearly marked "CLOSE" in black sharpie. The mirror slid back down into place, leaving the only source of light coming from the room below.

"How long do you think that we're going to have to stay here?" I asked once I reached the bottom of the ladder. "Until the Clubs retreat." He responded, sounding as if it were obvious.

The safe room was more of a cellar. The floor, walls, and ceiling were all made of concrete and the only piece of furniture inside was a shitty inflatable sofa.

"I'm guessing that a real couch wouldn't fit, un?" I said, flopping down onto it's flocked exterior.
"Hn." Itachi nodded, sitting down beside me, the couch sagging in a way that made it so we were closer together.
