Noah pushed the doors of the Institute open and burst through with Jay close behind him, holding Elle tightly to his chest.
"Get her to the infirmary. I'll find Sirona." Noah said before disappearing. Jay ran through the main hallway and, after what felt like an eternity, kicked open the wooden door that lead to the infirmary, a large room lined with tidy white and blue beds. He found the nearest one and gently put Elle down. He stared down at her pale face marked with dirt and blood. He held his blood-stained shirt firmly against her head.
He'd seen countless fellow Nephilim bleed. He'd felt the pain of his own twin when he'd been hit, cut, even stabbed. It was part of being who they were. Seeing Elle lay there motionless, bleeding. He couldn't explain the panic he felt. His thoughts were interrupted when Noah rushed through the doorway and let their healer pass him before shutting the door.
"What happened?" Sirona asked as she ran to Elles' bed, moving Jay aside.
"She was struck in the head. Check her ribs." He said calmly as he backed away. His entire body wanted to stay with her, hold her. His head needed to create space. Knew he needed to step back. The healer painted a mark over Elle's head, heart, and core.
"Nothing demonic. Okay boys, I've got it from here." And with that, Jay ripped his eyes away from Elle and hurried out of the infirmary. Noah looked back at Elle before following his brother. He found him sitting on the roof above his bedroom window. He climbed easily and sat beside his brother. He followed Jay's eyes and found himself looking at the ocean. It was calm, unmoving today.
"What's this hold she has on you?" Noah said.
"She doesn't-"
"Jay." Noah warned before Jay could deny it. Jay has always had a thick wall around him, never let anything affect him, which is why seeing his brother this way had Noah worried.
"I don't know." He finally said.
"You just met her." Noah said, though not accusingly.
"I can't explain it. I don't like it." He said. "She ran into me at the beach and from that moment I needed to know who she was." He looked down at the street below him. "Noah, she has the sight."
"And that's why you like her?" Noah said and Jay smirked.
"No."
"You mean she can see the future?"
"And the past but there's more." Jay shifted to face Noah. "Last night when the Shadow Demons attacked she could see and feel it."
"So did I." Noah said.
"Not like that." Jay sighed. "She was in the library when it happened. I found her hiding behind one of the book cases. She could see the battle happening without looking at it. When she saw one of us get cut or stabbed she felt it." Noah frowned. "She said she's been having dreams of battles for years but said it's been stronger these last couple months."
"When the demon activity began to rise."
"Exactly. She moved here shortly after that. The other night she had a dream where she was on the beach," he pointed to the beach behind him. "And Shadow Demons came from the ocean by the hundreds. One got her on her side and she bled when she woke." Jay paused.
"What?" Jay looked away. "What haven't you told me?" Noah persisted.
"She held the Angel's Sword." Jay finally said and Noah froze. "It appeared in her hands, she plunged it into the ground and the brightest light I've ever seen destroyed every demon on the ground and forced the others back to the depths."
