"How kind of you to grace us with your presence Mr. Blackwood." A woman with silver hair stood, a stern look on her lined face, said as Jay walked through the heavy wood doors into a large oval room.

"You called, I came." Jay said before the doors shut behind him.

"No. We called four times Mr. Blackwood. You have been ignoring us." A man with dark hair standing to the woman's left with his arms crossed and the same frown on his face.

"I was.. detained." Jay said, crossing his arms over his chest. Three people stood before him. Headhunter Harlow stood in the centre, to her left was Secondhunter Kinsley and Thirdhunter Emsworth to her right.

"And what, pray tell, was keeping you so busy you were unavailable when the high council called you."

"I don't believe I owe anyone an explanation. I was not on a mission. My personal time is mine." He said, defiantly.

"Young man when the Headhunter asks something of you-" Firsthunter Kinsley began.

"As I said, my personal time is mine. Why have you called me?" Jay interrupted. Kinsley's face began to turn red but the Headhunter placed her hand on his shoulder before he could get up, her eyes never leaving Jay's.

"You come from California now, do you not?" She asked.

"Yes." Jay responded.

"Were you not sent to California to inspect the heightened demon activity?"

"I was."

"Then please, do explain why you believe your whereabouts are none of our concern." Headhunter Harlow said, her impatience growing.

"Everyone needs a break now and again." Jay said with a smirk. Headhunter Harlow took a deep breath as her counterparts seethed beside her.

"Mr. Blackthorn-"

"Why have you summoned me?" He interrupted again, his impatience now beginning to show.

"Did you think your actions would go unnoticed?" Harlow shouted. Though he didn't break eye contact with the headhunter, Jay remained silent. "Your mark still burns." And he felt it. "The angel's crystal shined bright. Stronger than we've ever seen."

"Perhaps a child was born-" Jay hissed as the burn of his mark intensified.

"Do not treat us like idiots. We have never felt this kind of power coming from Nephilim. The only recorded Nephilim with such power was-"

"Elias Radley." Jay said through gritted teeth, his mark bright red, sizzling. He squared his shoulders.

"Who are they?" Harlow demanded.

"I don't know!"

"You're lying!" Thirdhunter Emsworth shouted as he stood abruptly. "We know you've given life from your mark to this," he waved his hands sporadically, "this unknown Nephilim!"

"What I do with my mark is my choice. As I said, my business. If I feel there is a danger to our kind or humans I will notify you, as I have sworn. Now, if that will be all, I'll be taking my leave." Jay turned and reached for the heavy doors.

"You are on thin ice, Mr. Blackthorn!" Headhunter Harlow shouted. "We will be watching you closely!" And the door slammed shut.

"Jay," he turned his head at the whisper of his name to find a familiar face. Jay smiled and hugged his twin brother. "Come on." He followed his brother outside the sky high silver building. "What happened in there?"

"Really, Noah, it's been what, three months?" Jay smirked as he crossed his arms over his chest.

"Four." Noah said dryly. "Why did they call you back to the London command? What have you found?" Jay's mind raced back to Elle. The way she laid quietly in the pool, her hair and dress flowing around her. The way her body had felt against his, even through the pain. The way she'd looked at him.

"Nothing of importance." He replied. Noah frowned.

"You're lying" Jay sighed, running a hand through his disheveled hair.

"I'm sorry." Jay looked back at Noah. "I'm still trying to figure things out."

"Why are you hiding it from the Headhunters?"

"I will tell them once I have a clearer idea of the situation." Jay looked out at the street, at all the people walking the side walk, driving by. None of them could see Jay and his brother. "I have to get back." Jay headed down the steps and disappeared into the crowd. Noah stood, watching after him.
