Nova Malfoy caused quite the stir when she was sorted into Gryffindor. Of course, it came of no shock to her parents, Lucius and Narcissa, who knew of her true identity. The night James and Lily Potter lost their lives, Narcissa let her emotions get the best of her; she'd already had a son, Draco, and had begged Lucius to retrieve the orphaned girl, insisting no one would ever know her true identity. Lucius loved his wife, so he did as she asked. Hazel Potter's name was changed to Nova Malfoy and she was raised as his twin sister.
Nova had jet black hair and green eyes, an unusual appearance to be a Malfoy but it was explained that she "looked like her aunt Bella" and nothing more was asked. Worry crossed Nova's face as she caught her brother's eyes from across the room, they'd never been separated. Draco gave her a nod, as if telling her it was okay. She smiled softly and sat down at the Gryffindor table, an older red headed boy ruffling up her hair as she sat.
Draco knew his sister's true identity. It'd been told to him before they began Hogwarts, so he could protect her, keep her away from Potter. His mother had explained to him, in secret, that it was more dangerous for her to know her identity than to not - being that Voldemort believed that the young girl died with her parents.

The night of the Yule Ball came, three years later. Nova had been asked by Harry, much to Draco's disapproval. Nova wasn't sure why Draco hated her friend so much, but he had quite obviously voiced his dislike right in front of Harry.
Nova and Harry were going strictly on a friend basis; though they had a special connection, it was nothing romantic. It really came down to the ball was in just a few days and neither of them had a date; they figured they could at least have a good time together.
Nova wore a beautiful blue gown with an open back. She usually didn't like to wear things like this, but she was trying catch the eye of a certain redhead and had chosen this dress. Her mother always said those types of dresses were distasteful.
Harry and Nova spun around together effortlessly, laughing and joking while dancing with the other champions. Nova could feel Draco's glare on her from across the room. His disapproval of Harry and her dress evident.
Harry and Nova took a break from dancing and sat down next to a miserable Ron at the table. "You should've asked her." Nova said in a smart-mouth tone, sipping her pumpkin juice, watching as Ron's eyes locked on Hermione and Viktor Krum.
"And you should keep your nose in your own business." Ron said sharply, Nova giggled. She knew Ron wasn't really mad at her, just upset that he wasn't dancing with Hermione - not that he'd admit it.
Nova leaned over on her knees to rest for a moment and Harry caught a glimpse of her back. "Nova?!" He gasped, grabbing her shoulders and jerking her around so Ron could see as well. "Where did you get that scar?" Harry and Ron stared, eyes wide at the scar just below Nova's shoulder blade: an identical lightning bolt scar to Harry's. Ron's mouth fell open at the similarities.
"Oh," Nova chuckled, "that thing? Draco and I were roughhousing when we were just toddlers and I fell. Nothing major." Harry's eyebrows raised to Ron, knowing it had to be true but the striking resemblance sure was odd.
"It looks just like Harry's." Ron whispered. Nova turned her head and raised an eyebrow.
"Really?" She laughed, "maybe I was marked by the Dark Lord too." She joked, waving her hands as if she was scared. The three chuckled as Draco stomped over, noticing that they'd been staring at Nova's back.
"Come with me, Nova." He grabbed her arm and jerked her up from her seat, pulling her out of the Great Hall. "I don't want you associating with Potter or any of the Weasley's anymore." He hissed.
"You're not my boss, Draco. As much as you'd like to be, you're not." Nova spat back, ripping her arm from her brother's grasp and crossing it over her chest.
Draco ran a stressed hand through his icy hair. "There's just so much you don't understand. So much you don't know." He whispered, mainly to hisself. Of course, he wanted to tell Nova. Maybe then, she'd understand. She wouldn't think it was just being a jerk and trying to keep her from being friends with Potter. In all honesty, Draco could care less if Nova and Potter had a relationship as siblings... he was only keeping her from him for her own safety. He couldn't lose his only sister.
"You always say that but you never tell me what you're talking about!" Nova growled, throwing her hands up in defeat. Draco shook his head.
"Just don't talk to Potter anymore, Nova. I mean it." He hissed, walking away.
"You're not my boss, Draco." She repeated. "I'll do as I please." She said defiantly. Draco ran back to meet his sister, grabbing her face in his hands and shaking her violently.
"You're going to get yourself killed, Nova. Don't you understand?" He said, tears rolling down his cheeks. Nova was crying as well, not sure if it was because of the way he was shaking her or because this was the first time she'd seen her brother, as a teenager, cry.
"Ahem." A voice coughed from behind them. "I think you should go Malfoy." The two looked up with teary eyes to see the Weasley twins. Draco let go of Nova's face, which was stained with red marks from his hands. The twins put an arm each over Nova's shoulders.
"You okay?" George asked as Nova shook. He took his dress coat off and draped it over Nova's bare shoulders. Nova nodded quietly as the three walked back to the Gryffindor common room.
