The Malfoy siblings had mended their relationship, but Nova would never forget what Draco said that night. Draco was a loving person, believe it or not, and Nova knew he'd only behaved in that manor due to something major. She just had to figure out what it was.

Draco still tried his best to get Nova to avoid Harry and the Weasley's. He longed to tell his sister what the situation really was and the severity of it. Harry was the Boy Who Lived; Hazel was the girl who didn't. Hazel, or Nova, really being alive would open up a whole knew world of danger. Voldemort would feel even more threatened knowing that two babies had survived him. Draco begged everyday for Nova to sit with him, Blaise and his other goons. Sometimes she did, sometimes she didn't. At the end of the day, Nova was her own person with her own opinions. She could make her own decisions.

Harry and Nova grew closer and closer; he confided in her when he began having feelings for Ginny, when he was stressed, when he was angry and Nova did the same with him. Neither could deny the connection they felt - it was not romantic. It didn't even feel like a friendship, it felt like something stronger. It was not the kind of connection Harry and Ginny felt, that Ron and Harry felt. Both had felt this way, shocked at the similarities between them.

As the children grew, entering their sixth year... Draco was given a horrifying task. Much to Nova's disappointment, he'd joined the death eaters with their father. She felt as if she was almost expected to, as well. She confided in her mother night after night that she did not want to join and Narcissa had reminded her that she needn't join, that she'd lived a long and happy life married to a death eater without being one herself.

Nova didn't tell her family she was friends with Harry; she knew how wanted he was by Voldemort and most of her father's "colleagues". She didn't breathe a word when all the men and women in dark cloaks showed up at the manor, she didn't even look their way for fear they'd be able to tell it right in her eyes. Nova wanted to fight against Voldemort, not with him. She wanted to fight with Harry and her heart broke that her brother had already made his decision to stand on the wrong side of things.

Nova fought within herself for months, trying to decide if she'd remain loyal to her family or betray them and join the fight against Voldemort with all of her friends. She wondered how and why Draco's decision  was so easy. He didn't confide in her as he had their whole life before; she assumed he was mad at her for her refusal to cease association with Harry, but the real reason was the less Nova knew about Voldemort and what was going on, the better. Draco wished sometimes he could just ball her up and put her in his pocket for safe keeping, until all of this was over. Nova needn't draw any additional attention to herself.

Her decision was clear after Dumbledore's death. The headmaster's death rocked all of Hogwarts, it shook students to their very core. With a war raging, the death of the most powerful Wizard many of the students knew was unsettling. Nova had always admired the headmaster, had always been close with him as well as Harry. She was grieving his death greatly.

Dumbledore knew of Nova's identity. Snape knew of Nova's identity... McGonagall knew... Sirius had known before his death... Remus knew.. they all knew. But, for her safety... no one revealed her secret. Nova was soon to find out as well, as she and Harry stood in Dumbledore's office, both visibly shaken by his death.

"What's this?" Harry whispered, pulling a vile of Dumbledore's memories out of a desk drawer. "To Harry and... Hazel Potter? Who's Hazel?" Nova jerked the vile from Harry's hand for further inspection, surely enough, there it was: to Harry and Hazel Potter.

"Do you have a sister?" Nova asked. Harry shook his head and opened the vile.. watching Dumbledore's memory of October 31st, 1981 unfold.

"The prophecy is only about the boy." McGonagall hissed, respectfully of course. Dumbledore placed his head in hands. The Potters were dead. He knew Minerva was right. He knew that it was not safe to send both twins, Hazel and Harry, to privet drive. What was he to do? It wasn't like he could send her home with her godfather.  He was now a wanted man. "She is presumed dead. It will only make matters worse if we don't separate them, as bad as it pains me to say it."
