At the Alpha’s house, Rachael and Reagan were busy talking with Max and Layla. They asked Layla about herself, finding out that she is from the Summer Storm Pack about 2 hours from the Midnight Range pack. They were all having a wonderful time.
“How many of the Alphas and Betas are still to head home?” Reagan asked.
“Most from around this area are yet to return to their homes. Winters, Mitchell, Horan, Titan.and Tyrone have all returned tonight.” Max explains.
About 20 minutes later they started dinner and still sat talking and laughing about all sorts of things. Rachael and Layla talked about what Layla used to do in her old pack and what she hopes to do as Luna. Even going as far to discussing baby names – which made Max a bit uncomfortable – and talking about how many kids they would like to have, adding to Max’s discomfort.
Reagan and Max on the other hand, talked about sports – as all men do – and how Max felt about being Alpha. Max was a little scared that so many people seemed to rely on him now, but he was happy that his father had offered to help as a co-Alpha for a week so that he could help Max with what needed to be done and show him how it was done.
After they had finished eating, about an hour later, Reagan and Rachael said goodbye to the new Alpha pair before walking home.
“Do you think Danielle would have liked to come along?” Rachael asked as her mind wondered to her sick niece.
“I would have thought so, considering she had accepted the Beta position. That and the fact that her and Max always got along and were able to talk about all sorts of things.”
“I wonder if she’s awake.” Reagan shrugged in response. He was hoping that she was at least awake so she could try eating something and to see if she still had the headache.
Walking to the front door Reagan grabbed Rachael’s upper arm. “Wait. Something’s not right.” Rachael stopped and Reagan let go of her arm before walking to the front door. He noticed that it was slightly ajar and he pushed it open slowly. “This door was locked when we left.” He walks down the hallways silently to where a closet was and opened it, grabbing out one of his rifles.
“Reagan?” He motions for her to be quiet and looks around, catching a few different scents within the house that wasn’t his or Rachael’s. His nostrils flared as his eyes flashed wolf. He slowly walked up the stairs, listening for any movement in the rooms above.
Reaching Danielle’s room, Reagan pushed open the door and held the gun to his side as he walked in. He looked around the empty room. “Rachael!” He heard footsteps rushing up the stairs and then entering the room. He heard her gasp as she entered the room.
“Where is she?”
“I don’t know.” Reagan looked around and he caught sight of something in the small bin beside Danielle’s bed. He kneels down on one knee and picks up the syringe. “But I think I know who took her.” His eyes flashed wolf before he shifted into his coffee brown wolf, ran downstairs and out the front door.
Be safe he heard Rachael tell him through their link. He knew where to go. He was going to see the woman he knew Danielle had seen earlier. The one who looked identical to her mother; Danielle’s sister, Camilia Tyrone.
Back in the Hummer, now well and truly far from Midnight Range territory – due to speeding – and Justin was becoming rather edgy. He couldn’t explain it and he wasn’t quite sure what to think of it. “I still can’t believe I actually went along with this.” Justin mutters to himself, while keeping an eye on the road ahead of him.
“Will you stop complaining?” Sarge had heard all of Justin’s ramblings throughout the entire trip and it was starting to drive him crazy.
“It’s your fault. You just had to kidnap your own bloody mate didn’t you? You just couldn’t stop yourself!” Justin hisses as he pressed hard on the breaks as a kangaroo bounds across the road. Once the kangaroo is out of the way, he speeds back up and continues. It was roughly 7 or 8pm with the sun starting to set behind them and Justin was getting more worried that Danielle would wake up and wreak havoc in his car.
