Book Genre: Sci-fi / Fantasy

Character Name: Aurora Kohl

Nominated by: Sanch250

About the story:

Only death and destruction follow the siren's warning. When Aurora Kohl, a brash seventeen-year-old pilot prodigy, hears its wailing cries, she must run and hide before Energy Fighters descend upon her planet's space colony.

Energy Fighters—uncontrollable super-soldiers that went insane after their military services were no longer needed—arrive within seconds, using their powers of energy manipulation to raze everything Aurora knows to dust. But with the help of her younger brother Forrest, she escapes, and together they stowaway on a spacecraft belonging to a group of misfit bounty hunters.

Normally, the freedom of space would be a dream come true for Aurora, but her time on the ship soon turns nightmarish when she discovers the bounty hunters are secretly harboring the super-soldiers' creator, the man with the highest bounty in the galaxy.

Aurora faces a difficult choice: turn the crew over to the authorities and collect the reward that will sustain her and her brother for life, or join the bounty hunters' fight to end the Energy Fighters' reign of terror.

What should I call you? Do you prefer a nickname?

Aurora is fine. Or Ro. But never Ro-Ro. I mean... Ro-Ro? Really? What am I? Six?

Ha, ha. Aurora it is. Welcome and thanks for agreeing to talk to us today.

No problem.

Can I get you something to drink? Water? Soda? Coffee? Wine? Whiskey?

Nah. I'm good. Alcohol dulls your senses and I prefer to stay sharp.

Good plan. Tell me a little about yourself.

I'm a few months away from turning eighteen and a Cadet Pilot in the Nexus Training Academy. First in my class. I'm sure you've heard of me.

Very impressive. Where do you live?

I live on my dad's farm on planet Lispy. It's a pretty boring rural farming community, but it does have one bright spot, the Lispy Nexus Base. As soon as I turn eighteen, that will be my new home.

Do you have any jobs or hobbies?

Flying, obviously, (the N97 Stingray is my favorite spacecraft to fly), and I race hover-racers. The faster the better.

What are some of your likes and dislikes?

Likes: Myself. My brother. Flying. Space travel. Racing. Being the best.

Dislikes: Energy Fighters - I hate those Effers.

What is your greatest fear?

Failing, at anything, but especially failing to destroy the Effers and having them take over.

If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?

I wish I was already eighteen and therefore, already a soldier in Nexus's military.

Are you happy we know your story?

Hell yeah. My story is awesome and I am awesome in it.

I can't disagree. Tell us, are you in love?

No. Love gets in the way of my career goals.

Do you have siblings?

Yes! Forrest is my little brother and my best friend. If you hurt him, I will end you.

Fair warning. Do you have an archnemesis?

Privka Motlin. He's a fellow cadet in the Nexus Training Academy. Guy is the human equivalent of a fart.

How... unpleasant, Do you like to travel?

I haven't ever left Lispy before, but once I enlist, I'll be traveling all over the galaxy. I'm sure I'll love it.

If you could go back in time for one day, where would you go?

I would go back to the day before my mom died. I would hug her one last time and tell her I loved her and how proud I was of her. How she was such an inspiration. But I'll never get to tell her. She was killed by an Energy Fighter when I was eleven. I never said goodbye.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure she knew this. We're almost out of time. Before you go, is there anything you want to say to your fans?

Keep working hard, keep doing your best, and one day, you'll be almost as cool as me.

I like the attitude. Can we look forward to reading more of your story?

Oh yeah. There's a lot more to come.

Thanks, Aurora for chatting with me today. Good luck with your training and do come back and talk to us soon,

You bet. I'm always happy to talk about myself.
