About the story:
The child appeared on the Grant's doorstep on a cold fall night, declaring his intentions of residing with the family. This mystifying boy, Victor, seemed to know much about the Grant household. He is sent away but continues to return, ultimately saving the life of the toddler. Dutifully, the family takes Victor into their home to discover the boy possesses talents that could only be defined as magical.
Years later, tragedy descended upon the Grants and the special tree in the family clearing was seriously damaged. Victor takes it upon himself to heal the tree with magic. Learning to control his newfound power without upsetting the magical balance in a world he never knew existed sets into motion an extraordinary adventure that will save him from himself... or destroy them all.
Hi there. Can I call you Victor?
Most call me Victor, or Vic, if you're feeling chummy.
I hope we can get to Vic. Welcome and thanks for agreeing to talk to us today.
My thanks to you as well, I was totally gobsmacked when I heard I'm being interviewed! Me! Wicked cool!
Can I get you something to drink? Water? Soda? Coffee? Wine? Whiskey?
Pretty funny, love! I'm seventeen. I know a few of my mates would ask for wine or whiskey, but let's follow the letter of the law, shall we? Tea, please, with a spot of milk if you can spare it.
Appreciate your honesty. While we wait for the kettle to boil, tell me a little about yourself?
Well, I'm a junior in high school, living with my mum and siblings as caretaker. I have a host of wonderful mates, I love school, though I'm absolutely dreadful in science... and, oh, yes. I did juice myself up with three types of magical abilities from an experiment, accidentally, of course. I did warn you I'm not that good in science.
Warning noted. Where do you live?
I live in a quaint, little town, Westerville, Maryland. Lovely area, especially in the summer.
Do you have any jobs or hobbies?
My hobby is my job, love. Believe it or not, I'm a ballroom and Latin dance teacher. Teach and compete! If I get to toot my own horn, toot! Toot! I'm a two-time national junior champion.
Congratulations on the win. What are some of your likes and dislikes?
I really like family, people, and dancing. I'm madly in love with custard-filled donuts, the most extraordinary things on the planet. My dislikes are magi who bloody well believe in world domination! I also dislike losing loved ones.
What is your greatest fear?
My greatest fear is to let down the people I love, care for, and protect. I'd give anything, including myself, to keep them safe.
Let's hope it doesn't come to that! If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?
Please don't think I'm conceited, but if I've done my absolute best, why would anything turn out differently? My papa used to say my only job was to be better than the person I was yesterday.
Your papa sounds very wise. Are you happy we know your story?
Oh, most definitely. I'm quite proud of how everything turned out since my little snafu in the clearing. But what I'm most happy about are the readers, so wonderful and gracious! If they enjoy my lot in life, I'm thrilled.
What's a day in your life like?
Well, I wake up, wrestle the Dueling Duo off to school, go to school myself, wrestle with science, and hang with my mates. After school, I head to the dance studio, wrestle with know-it-all clients, head home, wrestle with the Duo to get their chores and homework done. I either make or magically fix dinner, wrestle with my homework, wrestle with hard-headed magi attempting to subvert me, then off to the loo to shower and bed. This is why I don't work out. Lots of wrestling keeps me strong!
Lots of wrestling indeed. Do you have siblings?
Two pre-teens, Jason and Rosetta, affectionately known as the Dueling Duo. They can't get along long enough to boil water.
Typical siblings then. Are you in love?
I admit there is a young lady that's caught my eye.
Hmm.. no more details huh? Lets switch gears. Do you have an arch nemesis?
Well, I do, and I'm still miffed about it because I'd be willing to leave the past in the past... But there's this dreadful witch, Arabella, who wants to use me and my newly obtained magic for br... uh, let's just say nefarious purposes. Saddens me to the core.
Yikes. She sounds... annoying. Now a fun one. Do you like Vanilla, Chocolate or Mint Girl Guide cookies.
Not this again! The proper term is biscuit, and I say Vanilla for the win!
Is there anything you want to say to your fans?
Fans? I have fans? Wonderful! Could I send my thanks and heartfelt gratitude?
Consider it done. Can we look forward to reading more of your story?
Well, I do hope people will give it a gander. So much happens, good and bad, but that's typically how life goes. Enjoy the good and endure the bad.
Well, Vic, I hope I've earned the right to call you that. I'm out of questions for today. Thanks for talking with us.
This has indeed been an honor, love. Many thanks to you and all that you do.
You are most welcome.
