“Y/N, I’m going to need you to clean out those containers so we could put the fresh medical supplies in there. We need to make sure to keep everything sterile.”
You nod and do as your told. The benefits about working with the Medjacks is that you don’t have to deal with all of the ogling and gruffness of the rest of the boys. You’ve only been in the Glade for two months and find that it’s still hard to fit in. It’s impossible to go unnoticed considering you are the only girl and the only mute. Not knowing what happened in your past kills you, you tried desperately within the first few days to learn how to speak, but ultimately came up with nothing.
“Hey, why don’t you break for lunch? I think I can take the rest of the prep work from here. It shouldn’t be too bad.”
You stand in the same place and shake your head continuing on with cleaning up when Jeff pulls the container from you hand.
“I’m serious go on out. No one’s gonna hurt you out there. You’ve been here two months and this place doesn’t run well if we don’t learn to trust one another. Now go on.”
You nod reluctantly and slowly make your way out the door, seeing Newt in the distance as he’s leaving the gardens. His blonde hair casts a goldish hue when the sun hits it and his face scrunches up, wiggling his nose in the process, as he wipes dirt off of his face with the back of his hand. You haven’t really been around him much due to your shy nature, but when you did see him your stomach couldn’t help but do backflips. He’s just that handsome and incredibly sweet.
When you finally make your way to the kitchen you happen to be right behind him on line.
Should I say hello?
Idiot—YOU CAN’T SAY ANYTHING.
You tug on his shirt and he whips around with a startled look on his face. You smile and wave up at him and he smiles back.
“Hey, Y/N. How are you?”
You give him two thumbs up and he lets out a chuckle.
“That’s great. I’ve heard you’ve been keeping busy. Want to sit with me for lunch?”
You were hesitant at first. Whenever you had meals you usually would bring whatever it was into your shelter and eat it there, but before you had the chance to process it you nod your head and grab your food, following him to a table where Minho and Thomas were both siting.
“HEY so Y/N is joining us today, huh? What a pleasant surprise for you to grace us with your presence!” Minho says earning a chuckle from Thomas.
“I invited her.”
Newt smiles and rests a hand on your shoulder causing your face to heat up.
“Well, that’s great. Almost forgot we even had a girl Glader.”
You know that your face has turned a shade of bright red as you slouch in your seat. After a while it was as if Newt and the boys forgot you were even there, so you got up and walked away towards the Deadheads.
I can’t believe I did that. I should have just not tried saying hello.
“Bad…Bad bad bad.”
You whip around and see Ben standing across from you. He looked like a dog that contracted rabies, foam around his mouth and his eyes black as coal. You back up slowly but he lunges at you and you land on the ground. He pins your hands down with one hand and wraps the other around your throat.
“YOU DID THIS!”
You begin to cough and gasp for breath and your eyes are begging for him to stop. You begin to feel light headed when suddenly his hands broke free of your neck and a loud crack echos through the deadheads. Tears are pouring down your face as you quickly fumble to your feet and back up into a tree, shaking like a leaf.
“Get the bloody MedJack’s over here! Ben just tried to shucking kill Y/N!”
The sound of boys feet ruffling and yelling commenced as you felt yourself nearly keel over, Newt catching you in the process.
“Hey, Princess no crying. You’re okay.” He wipes the tears from your face and examines your neck. “You’re bruising up a bit, but you’re gonna be okay.”
You latch onto Newt, gripping tightly to his chest, your arms secured tightly around his neck. He tenses at first, but quickly loosens up, the two of you melting into each other.
“Let’s get you to bed.” He whispers.
He picks you up bridal style and takes you to your hammock and you shake your head vigorously, clenching onto him even tighter.
“You want to stay with me?”
You nod and he takes you into his room. Gently placing you on the bed.
“I’ll take the fl…”
Before he could even finish his sentence you tug his arm hard. He knits his brow clearly confused by your actions.
“What’s wrong? Is there something missing?”
YOU!
You tug his arm harder.
“I don’t know what you’re trying to…”
You push yourself up so that you’re kneeling on his bed, your arms to the back of his neck, reaching up and planting your lips on his. He kisses back and his hands wander down to your waist, causing you to smile into the kiss. You pull apart slowly and you bite your lip.
“That was…wow…that was amazing.”
The corners of your mouth turn up slightly.
“So you do like me…”
You nod your head and smile up at him.
“I had know clue… you seemed to avoid me like the plague.”
You shake your head.
“So you’re just a shy little thing?”
You press your lips to his and you feel him chuckling a bit before deepening it, pushing you down, and sliding into bed with you.
“Wish you would have told me sooner, Princess. I’ve liked you ever since you came up that bloody box.”
