It's been six months since my parents death. Chase stayed home while I recovered from my own injuries and planned for the funeral.

My best friends Shaylene Lester and Allissa Summers came to visit every now and then. They supported us at the funeral, and they took care of me  everyday while I was on bed rest after Chase left to go back to college.

Shaylene or Shay for short, had been my best friend since first grade. She had narrow dark brown monolid eyes and long straight brown-black hair. Her mom moved to New York from South Korea when she was around fifteen and her dad was second generation Japanese. She was a petit 5'0 goddess, as she had every guy on her shoulder, but she never went out with any of them.

Allissa on the other hand moved from Maine to attend the Manhattan Community College with us. We basically had just met during our freshman year, but I knew as soon as I met her, we were going to be best friends. She was your typical tall, honey blonde, icy blue eyed queen. Her personality was always so bubbly and she never failed to make you laugh. Her last name Summers really fit her perfectly. She had a boyfriend back home, but they hadn't talked as much as they used to.

It was now two in the afternoon, and I was still recovering from my broken ribs.

Allissa ran into my room with her hair braided and popped in the movie Divergent while Shay carefully plopped herself next to me and brought out all the goodies from her bag: takis, m&m's, lemon iced tea, milk chocolate, and cheez its. She opened the bag of takis and tipped the bag over to me so I took some. Allissa came to the other side and rested her head on my shoulder while taking an iced tea and some cheez it's.

Allissa gasped suddenly, "Damn, Theo James is just so fucking hot."

     "Right!" I laughed.

     "He's okay." Shay said.

"What!? What do you mean, are you blind?" Alissa exclaimed.

"No, I mean I see that he's attractive, but he's just not my thing, I guess."

"Ugh, he's so mine. I just wanna- mmhmmn." She licked her lips.

We all laughed and hung out while eating junk food and binge-watched the whole trilogy.

Before we knew it, nighttime had befallen. The candescent glows from the skyscrapers illuminated the Lower West Side. Once pleasant and exhilarating, now crestfallen like there was something missing. In fact, there was something missing: my parents. God, I missed them so much.

Shay and Allissa had fallen asleep a while ago. They looked so peaceful.

Feeling sentimental and a little bored, I decided to take a stroll. I winced in pain from my broken ribs but managed to slowly get up and grab my phone without waking them. They were such deep sleepers.

I had my arms crossed over my chest and I watched as planes passed overhead and people like me walked along the sidewalks. A few people were hanging out in the skate park. I headed down to Battery Park and looked over the water that I loved.

I leaned over the rail as a rush of gold flooded my head as I recalled the trip to the Adirondacks.

The light breeze caressed my face and blew my curly black hair all over the place as the hot sun shone on my tan skin. I put it up in a ponytail so that my hair wouldn't get too tangled. Then, I sat on my pink towel drinking the fresh squeezed lemonade from the stand nearby.
