Chapter 16 : A True Hero's Awakening

The wind stung her face and rushed in her ears as she sailed through the air, inching closer to her younger sister.

Finally she grabbed hold of Julie with a tight grip.

The young girl grabbed on to her elder sister, tears of terror streaming down her face.

"Mom!"

They cried in unison, as Kristina began to plummet faster.

Casey concentrated, and stretched out her free hand and an explosive blast of energy erupted from her palm, the blast propelling them forward.

The two sisters sailed much faster through the air, almost fingertips away from Kristina.

"Hold on mom, take my hand!"

Casey cried out.

Kristina looked to her right, spotting her daughters, and she stretched out her hand to grab Casey's.

But then, a large banner separated them.

Kristina collided with the banner, making her bounce off and she cried out in pain as she hit the ground at a safer speed.

But the faint cracking of her ribs as she hit the pavement concerned her, as well as a sudden sharp pain in her lungs.

Casey and Julie landed on the ground safely and they quickly rushed to their fallen mother.

"Mom!"

They cried out.

Casey then put Julie down as they ran separately.

"Mom are you hurt?"
Casey managed to ask.

Kristina looked up at her, trying to speak.

"M-my ribs, I think they're broken, they've punctured my lung."

She rasped, coughing up blood

Casey began to cry, as she knelt next to her mother.

"I'm so sorry this happened, I let my anger consume me and these powers helped me do so many horrible things."

She sobbed.

Kristina grabbed her daughters hand.

"No, I'm sorry for not telling you about my powers sooner."
"Its all my fault, after your father died it was so hard for us all to absorb, especially me."

"But you tried your best to honor him, no matter what you did."
Casey looked at her mother with a sorrowful smile.

Kristina gripped her daughter's hand tighter as she then began to cry.

"You're not a villain Casey, you are a true hero, just like Crimson Justice was."

She said breathlessly as she closed her eyes.

Casey gripped her mother's hand tighter with panic filled eyes.

"Mom?"

"Mom please don't go, we need you!"

She cried.

Kristina opened her eyes once more, with motherly smile on her bloodstained lips.

"Its too late for me, but I'll always be with you."

She whispered, as he head went limp and closed her eyes for the last time as she bled internally.

Casey cried harder, tears spilling from her eyes and dripped onto her mother's face.

"Mom please!"

She sobbed.

But then, Casey felt her hand heat up and a magenta glow enveloped her and Kristina's closed hands.

Whoa!

My mother's energy is absorbing into my own!

She thought, as the energy quickly passed through her body.

Casey then stood up cradling her mother's corpse in her arms.

Julie looked at her older sister crying.

"Mom."

She said somberly, as tears streamed down her face.

Casey looked back to her sister.

"Julie listen to me, go find help."

"I'm going to finish this once and for all."

She said, as she gently put Kristina's body on the ground.

The young girl nodded.

"Okay, go avenge our family big sis."

She said encouragingly as she wiped her face.

Casey nodded back, as she stretched out both hands by her feet.

Suddenly, with an explosive burst from her palms she was skyrocketed into the air and she sailed up towards Crimson tower and the ballroom floor.

I'm coming to end this Doomskull, once and for all!

She thought as she finally landed into the building once more.
