OLIVIA'S POINT OF VIEW

I went to bed with a smile on my face, I was feeling happy after a while of struggling with absolutely everything. Derek was happy, mom was stable and that made me happy. I felt like I released a huge breath that I didn't know I was holding; I know it's not gonna be like this every time but at least it was a huge improvement. Derek was trying and he found some happiness in Anna, and although I still fear that they might not work, he's happy and that's what matters.

I told Derek to be careful with Anna because of what she told me about him, I never really asked about them because it's not really my business, but Anna said that she wasn't completely sure if getting back together was a good idea because Derek's commitment issues are through the roof and when he feels insecure about their relationship he acts in a way that hurts her, she says sometimes it's not even the bare minimum, like occasional "I love you's", constant talking, a little bit of clinginess, and that stuff girls look for in a man. And I get what she means, Derek can be a very distant person and he rarely shows love emotions towards others. But she told me that when they were happy it was the best feeling ever, and that she understands that it's not because Derek doesn't love her but because he is afraid to be heartbroken so he prefers not to show those emotions, which I really value about her because not everyone can understand Derek and still love him anyway.

I went to sleep thinking about plans we could do together, since Derek was really trying, and now he has another reason to keep doing so, but he still needs to be distracted and accompanied. About half an hour later I fell asleep, I was tired too, my sleep is usually poor because I need to be aware of mom and Derek, but that night I thought it wasn't a big deal if I slept. Which was obviously a mistake nothing ever goes well in my life.

It was four a.m. when I heard some police patrol noises that woke me up. At first, I ignored them because why in the world would I think the police would come to my house at 4 a.m.?

Well, they did come. What a surprise.

I peeked through my curtains and I saw an officer come out of his car, he was coming to our door. I saw he took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

I quickly ran to Derek's room, it was locked, maybe he was sleeping, he always has his door locked lately. I shouldn't worry, maybe the officer came to warn us something, or to give some news to the whole neighborhood. Maybe he's going to say that there's a curfew and we can't go out.

But if that were the case why would he come at 4 a.m.? Wouldn't they just announce it in the news?

I ran to my mom's room and luckily, she was on her bed sleeping. I didn't want to wake her up because she needs to sleep. So, I ran down the stairs and opened the door. The officer looked at me with a blank face, I really couldn't tell what was going on.

-Hi, is this Sarah Johnson?- He asked

-No sir, I'm her daughter.

-Is there any chance you could call her?

-I'm afraid that's not gonna be possible sir, she has severe PTSD and anxiety, I'd rather not wake her up unless it's something really bad.

-How old are you?

-I'm 20, sir.

-What's your relationship with Derek Johnson?

I gulped, why does he know Derek's name? Is Derek in trouble for dealing drugs or something?

-Um, he's my brother, sir.

-How's your name again?

-I'm Olivia Johnson.
