Surprisingly, when I get back to class, Kristen asks if I want to sit with her at lunch.
"I mean if you have other friends you'd rather sit with then..."
"No. Of course I'll sit with you!" It comes out a bit pathetic, kind of like I'm desperate. But then again I am. Now that I'm not sitting with Hannah's clan I'm sat on my own every day, which isn't a good look.

After class, we gather our things and I follow Kristen to the cafeteria where they are serving tomato pasta up for lunch. We take a seat near the buying area and are soon joined by a couple other girls who are friends with Kristen. They all seem nice and it's a good change from sitting either alone or with complete cows. We soon delve into a conversation about our home lives and they all seem eager to listen to my tales from Edinburgh. I feel so comfortable with them that before I realise what I'm doing, I find myself opening up and telling them the reason we've moved back.
Once I realise, I slap my hand across my mouth, but they don't seem fakely sympathetic, they just say they're sorry to hear that and move the conversation on, almost as if they know I don't want to keep on about it.

Just as I'm sat listening to one of them complain about their neighbours blasting music every night, I'm hit by a huge force at the side of my skull.
I look up dazed to see Mackenzie towering over me with a tray in her hand, big grin plastered on her face.
"Oops sorry Jess, totally didn't see you there hahaha. Hope I didn't hurt you hahaha."
This bitch...

"Mind if I join you girlies?"
Before she gets a response, she's wedged herself in between me and Kristen.
As she pulls her bag over, it swipes me across the face and the zip cuts my cheek.
"Oh no I'm so clumsy hahahaha. Sooo sorry Jess."
I'm getting annoyed now.
"So what's the convo about girlies? Someone playing some tunes and that yeah?"
Who even said she could sit with us? Wait yeah that's right, nobody.
"Well I'm having a party in two weeks and you should all totally come, I bet it'll have much better tunes than your neighbour has to offer."

Why is she inviting me to her party? Is she on drugs?
I watch as her hand "accidentally on purpose" swipes my can of coke across onto my lap, the contents spilling all over my white shirt.
"Omg. What is it with me today? I'm such a clumsy cow hahahaha."
Suddenly, without warning, I "accidentally on purpose" knock my tray over, spilling tomato pasta all over her lap.
"Omg. Now it's me too hahaha. Must be a curse or something!" I say, mimicking the silly little voice she's talking in.
Her grin twitches slightly as she stands up.
"Oh dear. We both best get to the toilets and get cleaned up!"
She drags my arm, forcing me to stand up and I'm pulled towards the girls toilets.

Once we're inside, she clears out some first years and stands with her back on the door so nobody is able to open it.
"So... Jess!" There's a bitter edge to her voice that unsettles me.
Sort yourself out Jess, you aren't scared of her.

"You're still the same aren't you? Haven't changed a bit. I was hoping when I saw you on Monday that Scotland would have changed you, made you less of an annoying bitch. But if anything, it's made you worse. When I saw you that first day of camp in year 9, I had you sussed straight away. Always acting like a star, like you're so kind and compassionate.." she's spitting the words out as though they're venom.
"But really, you're just sly. Always trying to be the centre of attention, always thinking you're something you're not, acting like you're gods gift when really you're just a silly and immature little rat. And if ever there's something to go wrong, you always play the victim. You know Jess, you really are a hypocrite. You hate me because I kissed Max when he was still your boyfriend, and yet you kissed Harvey. You were a cheat before being cheated. I suggest you tone it down. I'm willing to forgive you now, turn over a new leaf, act as though it's our first time meeting each other. But you have to stop those toxic traits. Do you understand?"

I blink at her in astonishment absorbing everything she's just said.
"Wow how GENEROUS of you!" I say sarcastically. "Do me a favour and get lost before you embarrass yourself even more than you already have."

She looks at me for a good minute, menace in every etch of her face. Then, in a low almost animal growl, she mutters...

"Fine. If you want a war, that's exactly what you'll get!"
