Oh dear. I've only been here for two days and I'm probably already expelled. Surprisingly, I'm not as worried as I should be. All I can think about is Max throwing a pea at Mackenzie... and her face.
I try to stifle a giggle as I sit down but a noise escapes. I attempt to disguise it by pretending to cough, but the headteacher is much too aware.
"I do not think it is very funny Miss Sugg. Dear oh dear, two days in and you've found yourself at the centre of what I can only describe as the most wild and animalistic behaviour I have personally ever seen... and that's considering I've been to Edinburgh Zoo.""Oh, I used to live in Edinburgh." I say, and suddenly I don't feel like laughing anymore. I'm missing Angus and all of my friends more than ever now. I can feel tears brimming in my eyes and I determinedly stare at the ground willing them to suck back in. Perhaps the headteacher realises this as she uses a lighter tone in her next words.
"Yes well, I understand you must be feeling out of sorts. It isn't easy trying to fit in. But perhaps you should use your excellent throwing skills somewhere else rather than in the school canteen. There's several sports clubs you could easily join. I'll have a word with the sports teacher Mr Hallam. I'm sure he wouldn't oblige. Meanwhile, I think a detention will suffice as a good enough punishment. Room 17 at 4 o'clock."
With that, she dismisses me out of the room. I awkwardly shuffle out, still trying to hold back the tears. At least I only got a detention. And who knows, perhaps I'll make some friends if I join up to these sports clubs with this Mr Hallam man.
I pass Hannah and Mackenzie in the corridor on my way to the next class. Mackenzie has tears of fury in her eyes as she attempts to scrub out the lumpy mash in her hair. As I walk past, she glares, but I see Hannah's face behind her, and I'm almost certain that she winked.

After class
——
After my last class of the day, I head to room 17. As I get there, I'm surprised to see Harvey sat down. He smiles at me cheerfully, and I make the bold decision of sitting beside him.
"Hey Jess. No questions as to why you're in here. Your food fight story has been the talk of the college all afternoon. You're practically famous!"
I grin weakly. So now everybody most probably knows me as the food fight girl. That is an excellent entrance.
"Apparently you got mash in Mackenzies hair? I heard that she had to go home because she was that traumatised. Good on you Jess, I think she deserved it."This surprises me. Mackenzie is his twin brothers girlfriend, surely he would like her or else he'd tell max otherwise.
"You don't like her?"
"No, she's far too self absorbed. I tried telling Max but, well he's too blinded by love. Ridiculous if you ask me."
I nod my head in agreement. The psychology teacher appears into the room and announces he's been left in charge of detention. He places a box of books on the table and tells us all to get one and read it or else get on with some homework. Seeing as I've only been here two days, I don't have any work to do, so I chose a psychological looking book.
"Excellent choice Jess, I have my own copy at home! Also.." he lowers his voice. "I thought your throwing was excellent too. Especially the fish finger!"I grin. "Yours wasn't bad either. That pepperoni pizza certainly took me off guard."
I spend the rest of the detention reading some pretty cool facts about human behaviour and the mind. When we leave, I walk alongside Harvey."So.. you're back."
"Yep."
"And you certainly know how to make an entrance."
That's one way of putting it.
"This feels just like old times. Remember? That first few days you were at our school and we got detention together. That was the day you told me that Max.." I trail off.Harvey sighs. "I told you that Max had a crush on you. Yeah I remember it like it was yesterday. I still wish we were all as innocent as back then.. I still wish we were as close.."
As we reach the bus stop, my bus pulls in.
"Yeah.." I say "me too."
As I hop on, I suddenly get a thought.
"Hold on a second, you never told me why you were in detention.""Oh... well.. it wasn't anything special, I just smashed a guitar over this idiot guys head in my music class. See ya Jess!" And with that he walks off and the bus pulls away from the stop.
