Alone in Medbay [Discontinued]

Chapter 2 : Beds and Troubled Sleeps

"So. Its midnight, we better go to sleep." Socks finally decided, rubbing his hands for some warmth. His nose bleed has stopped completely. Meme shivered as he stood up, how was he gonna sleep when everything felt like a freezer?

"Sure Socks. As long as we don't freeze to death by staying here!" Meme shivered through gritted teeth. Ever since The Skeld flew past the solar system and is now heading to a planet called "Polus", everything at night turned freezing cold. In the day and in their sleeping pod,the heater is always on so they never feel cold. They decided not to waste too much electricity on the heater so they turned it off at night except inside the sleeping pod.

"Does medbay not have any blankets or some sorts?" Socks asked, rummaging through the cabinet on top of the specimen machine.

"No. Its a really limited medbay." Meme answered, pointing at the samples and basic First Aid Kit. "Unless you want to use bandage as blankets of course." He shrugged.

Socks mumbled something unintelligble. He shook his head, clearly thinking. He looked at the ground for a good 5 minutes, his fingers rubbing his temples, while also chewing his lips.

"Sooo..." He started, looking at Meme. "We have no blankets—not even a towel—its freezing cold and the heather is shut off here for fuel—"

"Yes yes I know Socks. So what's your solution? You're usually the smart one." Meme asked impatiently. Socks gave him a look that clearly said wait.

"So the only thing we can do is just sleep in the bed. Hopefully the heaters under it still works even at night." Socks concluded. Meme bit his lower lips, uncertain at the conclusion.

"Look. I know its cold as heck. But we have no choice Meme. Its been a long day and we need to sleep. Plus the beds is pretty warm, see?" Socks sat on a nearby bed, patting it. "It maybe not the warmest bed, but its all we got."

Meme went to a bed, just across the one Socks was sitting on. It was kinda warm. But was it enough for a room this cold?

But he was getting sleepy so he didnt really care. Yawning loudly, Meme laid his back on the bed, his eyelids slowly drooped before it close completely.

'Attention, The Skeld is now getting closer to Planet 42069–Polus. Temperature will drop significantly'

Meme's eyes shot open hearing it. It was the usual ship A.I—Karen— and her job was alerting on whats happening to the ship. What she said was right. Suddenly the room felt like it was dropped into an ice bucket. The heater under his bed felt none existent.

He have heard about Planet Polus and its cold temperature. He have also read about how the gas around the atmosphere of the planet is so cold that it would even effect the insides of spaceship. But he never knew it would be this cold.

Meme sat up abruptly, shivering while also silently cursing the fact he was wearing a sweater and sweatpants, he look around the room. Socks was sleeping soundly, but he could see the spaceman was shivering slightly, but not as much as Meme.

I wonder if he has a heater inside his suit? Meme wondered internally. Wait— but does that mean he doesnt feel cold now? Cheater

Meme looked at the sleeping spaceman. I wonder if I'll feel warm too when I touch his arm, Meme mused internally. His curiousity started to grow as he examine Socks sleeping comfortably. Hmmm maybe I should try.

The cold tile sent a shiver down his spine as he tip toe toward the spaceman. Meme gritted his teeth. He should've not change into his sweater after storming off from the Emergency Meeting. He should've just stay using his spacesuit. It has an inplant heater that is programmed to work up when they are in Polus.
