I pulled up to Jack's house, and looked over at his house. All the lights were on in the kitchen and in the living room. I put my car in park, grabbed my stuff, and got out of the car. I smiled and opened the back seat's door. "Go!" I shouted as Max leaped out of the car and bolted for Jack's front door, with his tail wagging. I closed the doors and ran up to the front door, and rang the bell. I heard Charlie howl from inside, and I looked down at Max, who was trying to sniff under the door. "Quiet Charlie!" Jack's muffled voice roared. He opened the door slightly, but Max pushed through. "Whoa whoa whoa! What is this a house party?!" He whined, as he opened the door to let me in. "Uh, I just thought Max would wanna see Charlie." I lied as I pointed at Max, who was playing with Charlie already. Jack squinted his eyes and leaned towards me. "You're a BIG FAT LIAR!" He jokingly declared. "No I'm not!" I shrieked loudly as my voice got higher. "Yeah you are!" he shouted, "Your voice wouldn't have gone that high then!" he analyzed as he put his hands on his hips. "Whatever! Doesn't matter" I laughed as I rolled my eyes. "Newton Miller I've known you long enough to know when you're lying!" He stated once again, trying not to laugh to keep the bit going. "Good job Nancy Drew!" I joked, going along with it. "Don't make me get my magnifying glass!" He boomed, as he crossed his arms. "Why don't you get the same one your doctor has to use for your prostate exam!" I laughed as I walked over to his fridge to get a beer. He gawked at me in shock, as he realized he signed himself up for that, and I lost it laughing. "I let your ass get over here and you verbally attack me on my own property!" He whined as he walked over to the couch. "Didn't deny it!" I hooted as I grabbed a beer and followed him to the living room. "So why are you really over here huh? On a Thursday?" He insisted, as I opened my beer and took a sip. "Someone was In my house, man, I just needed to get outta there for a night alright?" I ranted. He almost choked on the sip of his beer he had just taken. "What?!" he shrieked. Max and Charlie suddenly stood still, thinking they were in trouble. "Yeah, and remember when I yelled at you for taking my clothes? It was washed and IRONED, same with all my other clothes, and my place was CLEAN." I ranted, and Jack sarcastically gasped, "Oh my, Newt's apartment, clean?" I ignored him, and continued. "But, when I got home, Max wasn't mad, like an intruder, it was so weird.." I took a sip of my beer again. "Maybe Max is gettin' old." Jack scoffed. "Or maybe he knew them?" I questioned, and continued my rant. "The Iron was still on, and my bedroom was locked, the front door was UNLOCKED, I swear I locked it, I'd never forget THAT." I looked over at him, and he was watching Chicago Fire with the volume down. "Maybe your mom came over." Jack joked once again. "Jack!" I shouted, and he looked at me. "I'm serious, I yelled that I was leaving with Max, and I saw them leave." I stated, "Oh." he blurted, and sat up and turned the TV off. I was shocked, I had never seen Jack so serious, but I took it as a good sign. "Well, what did they look like? Did you see anything like hair color? Gender? Height? Size?" He questioned. "Well, I think it was a guy, they were skinny, and tall, kind of like.." I trailed off, looking at the ground, trying to make sure I was remembering properly. "Kind of like??" Jack asked, breaking the silence that was lingering in the air. "I don't wanna be an alarmist, but kind of like.. Ed?" I hesitated. Jack and I stared at each other in silence. "This is between us." I ordered, breaking the silence. He nodded in silence. "Ed's met Max before." I stammered. "When?" Jack asked, shocked. "Remember in 2035 when we had that summer cookout? Like the whole department was there?" I asked, "You brought Charlie, I brought Max, Prentiss brought Biscuit, and there was a little dog party?" Jack shook his head, understanding where I was going with this. "What do we do?" Jack whispered. "Nothing." I declared, "Nothing at all, it's probably just a big ass coincidence, Ed didn't break into my house, he couldn't have." I grabbed my beer I had placed on the coffee table, and took a big sip of it. "Alright, you probably just left everything on, you probably just was too drunk to remember what you were doing and just cleaned your whole place." Jack tried to console me. "Yeah." I worried. I wasn't sure if I should confront Ed or not, and I was even more worried about if Ed would say anything at work tomorrow. I took another sip of my beer as Jack turned Chicago Fire back on, and I started to watch it with him.
