You could almost feel the blood rushing through your veins as adrenaline took over. Every other sound muffled, you focused in on your heart pounding in your ears, a calming yet fast beat. As soon as you had saw the robot you took off running. You silently cursed yourself for being such a coward. You looked behind you and instantly regretted it. The giant robot was at least 300 meters tall, considering it was the height of most buildings here.
You looked back forward and the rushing crowd of kids were zooming ahead of you, screaming and yelling, running away from that thing. They're definitely not getting in, you thought as you watched their scared faces. Your legs slowed to a stop on the street and you shook your head. Neither am I if I don't stop being such a wimp. You turned around and your brain started calculating. What could you do? You squeezed your hands into fist. You have to do this. You have to.
Your eyes glanced to the building on your right and then back to the giant robot. You got it. You ran to the building and held your hands up. Brilliant white light blasted from them and disintegrated the door as you ran in. Sorry, door, you thought, no hard feelings. You ran up the steps of the empty building. Taking the stairs two at a time, then three, and then miraculously, four. You finally got to the top of the building and blasted the ceiling, climbing your way onto the top.
You were still a rooftop away from the robot and looked at the gap between you and the other building. You glanced down at your platform sneakers and then back to the gap. The gap between you and the other building was about seven feet. You took a deep breath and backed up. Further... Further... And further. You were about five feet away from the gap now. Okay... one... two...
Three! You ran and leaped across the gap. It was almost like time slowed down. You looked down at the gap and gasped. You finally landed but almost lost your footing. Instead, you fell forward and tumbled across the roof. You lay flat on your back, dazed. You then realized you were still in the motherfucking entrance exam and quickly scrambled to your feet.
You were now level to the robot's head and you ran towards it. You jumped onto its head and balanced yourself. Crap! What do I do now? You did not think this through. You bit your lip and on instinct started carving out the robots head with your light. The smell of burnt metal filled the air and smoke rose, making you cough.
You were getting hopeful as you knew you were getting points. You were done cutting the robot and you felt proud. I did it! You thought, smiling. You were just about to leap back onto the building when you felt the robot's head shake and move. You were swaying on its head trying to keep your balance. You tried to lay low, then you felt the robot's knees buckle and down it went.
The robot was falling faster than you imagined and you could've sworn your heart was now in your throat. Shit shit shit! The head was now tilted slightly at an angle and you were slowly slipping down it. Your back was against the robot and you were using your shoes for friction to stop yourself from sliding down any faster.
You started thinking of your parents, what they would think if you somehow died. Or worse yet, failed the exam. You rolled your eyes at the implication. Your parents would might as well be more disappointed in you failing the exam than actually dying. But no, you weren't going to die. This was UA after all, they wouldn't let their potential students die... right?
You had no time to ponder that question, because you were falling. You managed to grab on to a ledge on the robots "chest" but you could hardly keep your grip. Annnd, this is how I die. You started to panic and tears blurred your vision. You were hanging almost a thousands feet above ground and you felt your fingers turn slick from sweat. You couldn't hold on much longer. One by one, your fingers started to give out. And then you were falling.
Backwards you fell, your body flipped over and you were falling head first. It was like some sick person's interpretation of a human meteor. The wind resistance was hurting your face and you could barely breathe. You tried to suck in more gulps of air but it was futile. You were heading towards the ground faster and faster and you closed your eyes as you knew there was nothing UA could do to save you in time. You screamed as you braced yourself for the inevitable impact.
Suddenly, you stopped falling. The wind was knocked out of your voice and you could not speak. Your ribcage hurt from the abrupt stop with your momentum and from the thing that stopped you. Big, strong arms were wrapped around your waist and your head was still towards the ground. You were sure your behind was in someones face. That someone was knocked down to the ground and you and then slid a good 5 inches from the force of your falling. You groaned and sat up on the person, you were basically on top of them but too stunned to even be embarrassed.
The person- a he, sat up on his elbows, also a bit dazed. As you were rubbing your ribs you then took him in. You blew out a breath, amazed. He was handsome, and you felt your cheeks get hot as you realized you were sitting on him. You hoped he couldn't see the color change. His spiky bright red hair had two horns in the front. A few strands of his hair were down on his head and not spiked up, maximizing his cuteness. He had on a toothy shark grin and your eyes widened at the fact that they were pointy. His striking red eyes locked with yours and you had to look away.
"I-uh- who are you?" You managed to say. He cocked his head to the side and flashed a heart-stopping smile. "I'm Ejiro Kirishima."
