Layla
The school was about ten times the size of her old one. That only meant one thing, more people. More people that she doesnt know. More people that she will be surrounded by when she walks through the halls. More people to judge her. She squirmed in her seat, the smile that was plastered on the principals face was extremely fake and it made her uncomfortable. “Well, we are so pleased to welcome you to RidgeWay High. You have your schedule and your locker combination is on the bottom of the page. You're welcome to scope out your classes and get use to your locker. Have a good weekend and we'll see you Monday!” Shaking her hand again, they left out of her office and she looked at paper in her hand. A fresh start. Don't mess it up. “Do you want me to help you find your classrooms or should I wait in the car?” “You can head to the car. I'll be quick, they look like they're relatively near each other.” She gave her grandma a small smile then made her way towards room 178. It only took 10 minutes to find all of her classes, the school was big but easy to figure out. She decided to make a quick stop at locker 1726. Luckily, it was in close range to all of her classes. She was never good at combinations and it felt like she had been standing in this spot for forever. Frustration getting the best of her, she threw the welcome folder on the floor. There was a loud laugh coming from behind her. Turning around, she saw the over confident, weird- haired pizza boy. “Do you need some help?” he asked. “No. I've got it.” She stubbornly tried her combination again but it still wouldn't open. She peaked behind her shoulder where the boy was still standing. He wore a smirk on his face and his arms were crossed on his chest. “You still got it?” With a huff, she shoved the paper with her combination at him. She watched closely as he put in the numbers and locked his eyes on hers as he opened the locker. “Show off.” she scoffed. He grinned at her. “Try it again.” She remembered the numbers from attempting to open it so many times and did as he did when he got it open. Spinning it back from the last number, it opened with a click. “Finally!” “You are very welcome.” She closed the locker then looked up at the boy who must have been over 6 feet tall. “Thank you.. Uhm.” “Michael.” He put out his hand. Whats with hand shaking in this town? “Michael.” She repeated. “And you are?” He still had her hand in his. “Layla.” she said slipping out of his hold. He leaned down in front of her and picked up the folder. “You might need this.” “I better go, my grandma is waiting for me.” She said taking her schedule. “Alright, see you around.” Before she turned around she asked a question that didnt really matter, “Why are you still at school? Its been like an hour since it was let out right? And its a friday, dont you have plans or something?” He raised his eyebrows, and the piercing that she hadn't noticed until just then raised too. “I use the music room after school sometimes.” She began walking backwards. She wanted to say something clever about music but before any words escaped her lips she tripped over her own feet and started stumbling backwards. She was about to hit the ground when she felt herself being pulled back up. It wasn't actually a pull, more of a yank. Instead of landing on the floor she landed in the chest that smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and cologne. The smell was far more attractive than the scent that she was so used to smelling from Trevor. It was almost like one of those romantic movies, until her arm started throbbing from when she was yanked midair. She grabbed her shoulder and looked into the incredibly attractive boy's green eyes. “Thanks for catching my fall, but you couldn't have been more gentle with it?” She laughed lightly but he held a stern look on his face. His eyes traveled down her body and back up suddenly making her feel incredibly insecure. He squinted his eyes like he was focusing on every detail of her face. “Or maybe I should've just let you fall.” He turned to face Michael. “Calum and Luke already left so I'm heading home. See you later.” He gave her one last glance then walked past her and out of the school. When she turned back the other way Michael was gone too. Well that's not weird.
