Mr. Kanter walked me down the hall then down another hallway and through a door. In the room, which I assumed was a cleared dining area since tables were pushed back against the walls. The cast to Loving You stood there talking with one another. Elvis was talking with the male actor for the movie, a man taller than him by a couple of inches, and older than him by maybe fifteen years. Elvis looked really good in his black suit and stark white sneakers.
"Look who I found in the hallway," Mr. Kanter announced and the four members of the cast looked over at me, but my gaze was on Elvis. He smiled, and I swallowed my greeting. He didn't look like someone who was worrying like crazy. Was Mr. Kanter just saying that?
"So this is the poor little girl who got her wrist broken by those mean men," said the older blonde woman who was maybe around the same age as the other man in the cast, maybe younger. She took my free hand. "Lizabeth Scott, dear. It's a pleasure."
"The pleasure is all mine."
"Fine article," said the other man. "Wendell Corey."
I shook his hand, and boy, he had a strong grip! "Thank you."
"And I am Dolores Hart," said the younger girl, maybe around my age. Oh, goodness, is she the love interest to Elvis's character? She's so pretty!
"It's nice to meet you."
"I loved that article, too," she said. "I thought it was so sweet and touching."
I looked at Elvis. He said, coming up to us, "You doin' alright, Daisy?"
My heart jumped. I asked him to call me by my first name in case we met again, and here we were, meeting again. "Yes, thank you."
"This poor guy was worrying like a nothing else after you left the ballroom," said another man, old enough to be Elvis's father, it looked. Maybe his manager? "Tony Hills."
I shook the man's hand and noticed Elvis's face turn a tad pink. I thought that cute, at how embarrassed he seemed.
"It's nice to meet you. And I'm fine, really."
"We never saw a glimpse of you after you left," Lizabeth put in.
"I guess I just lost track of time, and then Mr. Kanter found me. Really, I just didn't want to cause any more commotion. That article of mine really made a stir. I'm sorry about that."
Since when had I ever apologized for writing an article? Apparently, when it had to do with my celebrity crush, things were different. Said man refuted, "No need to be apologizin'. I was rather touched by the story and what you said in it. Thank you very much."
I grinned at that. Mr. Hills said, "Yes, we need all we can get in the form of publicity for this guy here."
He bumped Elvis in the arm and Elvis chuckled, giving off that smirk. It was really difficult to look away from.
"Not that he's not already super popular, especially with the female population in America," added Lizabeth with a pretty smirk of her own. Who did she play in their movie? Surely not another love interest... maybe? She was a beautiful woman for maybe being in her late thirties or early forties.
"Aw, you all are makin' me blush," joked Elvis and I let out a chuckle at that. I remembered why Mr. Kanter brought me to this room.
"Elvis, if it would be alright, could I ask you what I came here to ask?"
"Absolutely, Daisy."
We went to a wooden table that was pushed off to the side and Elvis pulled out a chair for me. Smiling, I sat down and he sat across form me, hands clasped on the table. He had attractive hands as well.
