Again, the press exploded. I wrote my last article for The Daisy Column and the nation went crazy. People wrote me personally, filling our mailbox, mainly fan mail stating it was about time that Elvis and I were able to be together. I sat on my bed, reading the fiftieth letter written to me. Alice came into the room and dropped some more envelopes on my bed.

"These just came today," she said in her drawl. "The postman handed 'em to me personally."

I eyed the dozen letters that were now added to my collection. "My Lord, more? It's only been a week since Elvis and I officially said to the press that we are a couple now."

"And a week is the perfect amount of time for people to be sendin' some letters. No doubt your old job is flooded with mail as well. Mr. Swingin' Hips has probably received a lot, too, in addition to what he usually gets."

I had to laugh at her name for Elvis. "Yeah, maybe." I looked through the stack of envelopes she just dropped on my bed. I looked at where they came from. "Here, here, New York, Los Angels. Wow. Oh." I picked up one and showed it to Alice. "This one's for you. It's from my old place of work. I would recognize that logo anywhere."

Her brows pushed together, and she took the envelope. "Hm, what could they be contactin' me about?" She opened it, pulled out the letter, and started reading as I read one of my letters. I glanced at her for a second and saw her face turn-cherry red. I put down my letter.

"Wow, what? Why is your face suddenly so red?"

"They, well... want me for another interview. He does."

"He who?"

She looked at me, the letter on her pink skirt on her lap. "I was interviewed for seein' A Streetcar Named Desire on Broadway about two years ago. They only wanted an opinion and a recap of the production. The man who interviewed me... well, let's just say I didn't know love at first sight was possible until I met 'im."

My mouth dropped open. "Oh my gosh, you're in love with someone and you didn't tell me?!"

"It's not goin' anymore since we had to break up due to his work rules. I can't say how much the situation with you and Elvis reminded me of what I went through."

This story sounded very familiar. "Who interviewed you?"

"His name was Doug Fuller, and he was the most handsome, kindest man I've ever met. We wanted to be together, but he chose his job over me. I was heartbroken. And now..." She looked at the letter in her lap. "He wants to meet again for an interview since he's writin' another story about that production. He's askin' if I can come in Friday mornin' at eleven."

I stared at her in disbelief. I couldn't believe that Doug was talking about my own roommate when he told me about a failed love because of the work rules. "Of course you should go, Alice! Doug, he's a good man. I've worked with him since I started the paper a year ago, and he, too, is heartbroken about how you two couldn't be together. He told me about it, I just didn't dream that it was you he was talking about."

Her pretty blue eyes widened, but they were sad. "He talked about me?"

"Yes. This situation with Elvis sparked memories for him, too." I reached over and took her hand. "Go and meet with him. Maybe there's a possibility that you two can be together."

"But in order for you and Elvis to be together, you had to quit your job."

I squeezed her hand. "Just go and see what happens. You're not famous, so I think it's possible."

She nodded. "Alright. I'll go." She let out a breath. "Boy, do I want to kiss that man again. I dream about it every other night."

I giggled at that and got back to my letters. Alice helped me open and read them with me.
