"I will release the lightning that courses through my veins."
⤷
Three days have passed and we haven't come across any other tributes which makes me uneasy. Four more people have died not including Edith, which means we've made it to the final 9. All of the careers are alive which is really bad, I may have to go back on the deal I made with Maddox because facing off with all six of the careers at once doesn't sound ideal.
I need to figure out how to pick them off one by one, I need to get them separated or else we're screwed.
Out of nowhere, I hear a huge growl and someone screaming. It sounds like a big animal is ripping someone apart and the screaming is getting more painful to listen to.
BOOM!
The cannon goes off and a creature emerges from the trees at the other side of the clearing. It's beautiful, resembling a white tiger but it seems to be glowing, it's mesmerizing.
But the blood on its muzzle reminds me that it's just like everything else in this arena, beautiful but deadly. The mutt starts to make his way toward us but I don't hesitate.
I shove Alex and pick up all of our belongings and start to bolt into the forest, with Alex already in front of me.
He turns to head north but I turn him around and we start running south, toward the cornucopia. Hopefully, we can ditch the mutt and let the career pack take care of it.
It doesn't take long before I can spot the cornucopia in the middle of the valley so I run straight for it, "Alex climb the first tree you can, I'll find one too just be quick."
The mutt is gaining on us so we have to move quickly, Alex is already making his way up a big tree so I keep running toward the mouth of the valley. Right before I make it to the clearing I find a thick tree with strong branches that can hold my weight.
I manage to climb a few feet before the mutt reaches the base of the tree. I keep climbing until I know it can't reach me and I wait.
From here I can see some of the careers hanging around a fire next to the cornucopia, they're making a lot of noise which eventually catches the attention of the mutt. The huge creature turns towards the valley and starts running towards the campfire.
I don't wait around to see what happens, I jump down from my tree and call for Alex to come down.
I watch as he climbs down his tree and then I hear it, SNAP.
I turn around to see the two female tributes from districts one and two. They're grinning ear to ear with equally feral looks in their eyes.
"I was hoping we would meet again lightning girl. It was wise of you not to join the pack, you would have been the first one we would turn on. Too bad Maddox isn't here to tell us to hold us to our deal, it looks like we get to kill you early." the girl from two says with a wicked smirk.
