Dinner table

Pass the salt if you're not too far
Looking past all the scars
That were made right here
Out of love, out of fear
Wooden frame, board games
Nothing will ever be the same
A rose in a storm
Being broken down and torn
If you don't have value
you'll be seen through
Take a seat and stay silent
Watch the world become violent
In a bubble, in disguise
With tears in your eyes
Just a reason for laughter
Not a happily ever after
Buried deep in words never said
They repeat in your head
Just a listener, not a partner
Parting in departure
Entertainment for the night
Until they forget you by daylight
Laugh it off, it okay
As long as you say
What you needed to
Just trying to get through
But there's a wall in between
The table and your seat
Like a show on rerun
Never watching it for fun
Just an outsider observing
How they've been a burden
Hold your own hand
Excuse yourself and stand
Walking into the kitchen
When everyone refuses to listen
You must be more intriguing
To eat dinner without leaving
The meat is overcooked
As your value is overlooked
As your body shook
Shaking off chances you took
Going back into the darkness
That's where your heart is
So out of place
Always forgetting your plate
Must be a sign of fate
Glance at everyone, then separate
Better off being alone
When nothing feels like home
More of a problem than a solution
Filling the house with pollution
Move your elbows near your sides
Until there's nothing inside
Smile and try to hide
All the times you've cried
It's time to eat
Not time to weep
So please just keep
Your heart up your sleeve
Drowning in the muffling sounds
That fill the background
As words are slurred
And questions go unheard
It's hard to stay focused
When silence is broken
It's hard to stay stable
When you can't escape a label
Are you ready? Are you able?
To sit at the dinner table
