Best friends

Alex POV:
I've know meredith ever since our first year as interns here.
She's been there for me, she's helped me through everything, with george's death, and when izzie had cancer and left. I could tell her everything and talk to her about almost everything, but why couldn't I tell her how I felt about her? When she and  cristina were in the cafeteria earlier, I wanted to tell her I loved her, but everytime I opened my mouth nothing came out.

I was in the lab studying for my boards with avery,kepner, and yang when meredith walked in pissed.
"I can't believe him, not giving her a CT when she needs it,derek shepherd is a complete ass".
"You got that right" said cristina.
"What did he do?" April asked.
"He told me that my patient didn't need a CT, when she did, and then he told me if I gave her a CT without his permission, he would kick me off the case".
"Sound like mcdreamy is a mcbastard" april replied.
We all agreed with her.
"So who likes who?" Jackson asked.
"What is this, highschool" snickered cristina.
"I actually want to know too" replied meredith, smiling.
"So far, no guys are attractive here" said april.
"Hey!". Said jackson hurt.
"Oh be quiet you big baby" said cristina.
"Alex do you like anyone?" Asked meredith.
Of course I do, I love you, I thought.
"Oh I bet he's gonna go screw another nurse or an intern" cristina spat.
"Piss off yang". Meredith giggled at that.
I smiled. I loved it when mer laughed.
I especially loved her eyes. I don't think anyone could ever have the prettiest blue eyes that mer has.
"Hello". "Earth to alex"
I snapped out of my daydream and came back to reality.
"Who were you thinking about?"
"What?"
"You were thinking about someone"
"No".
"Oh eww it better not be me" said cristina disgusted.
"Or me" said april.
"You can think about me" said Jackson, blowing kisses and batting his eye lashes flirtatiously.
"Oh piss off" I said.

*Later*

I had to talk to mer. I had to tell her how I feel. I just have too.
I walked over to april, who was checking up on her patient, his wife, and 3 annoying ass kids.
"God I need a damn break" she said.
"Will you cover for me" she asked me.
"No, have you seen meredith?"
"I think she's in the on call room"
Yes I thought. This was my chance.
"I need to go talk to meredith".
"Why" she asked.
"Mind your damn business" I replied.
She rolled her eyes at me and left.

I knocked on the door to Meredith's favorite place to hide from bailey.
"Hey mer, you ok?".
"Yeah I'm ok".
She opened the door and I stepped in.
"What's up alex"?.
Tell her, she needs to know.
"I um.
She looked at me confused.
"Alex are you ok?"
"I'm fine, it's just"
Is everything ok?".
"Meredith, I've been in love with you since we were first interns here, and I've been wanting to tell you for so long but you were with derek and I didn't want to ruin anything or have him kill me".
"Alex, I had no idea". I could see the sadness in her eyes.
"I'm in love with you Meredith grey"
That's when I did it. I kissed her.
In the middle of out moment,  a beeping went off. It was her pager.
"Shit my patient". "Alex I have to go".
"Mer, wait"
She left the on call room and ran to her patient.
That's when I realized it.
I had just kissed my best friend.
