I'm not at all happy with this Chapter but it sets me up nicely for what's to come and I'm excited for that, hope you enjoy ❤️
Usually, when David woke up early to go to work, Stephen would accept his kiss on the head, grumble a goodbye and go straight back to sleep.
But not this time.
This time, he closed his eyes but listened intently for the click of their front door closing. He waited for the exact moment when he was clear to jump out of bed, frantically tug on his shoes and jacket, before grabbing his keys and bolting out the door.
David's car had just turned the corner of the street when Stevie sped off after him in his own little car to make sure he didn't lose the doctor completely.
All along he kept his distance, knowing if he got too close the other man would recognise his car and it would be very difficult to explain why he was stalking his boyfriend at 6 o'clock in the morning.
The journey was a lot longer than the detective had expected, he assumed David had an early start in the mornings but now he just realised it was about an hour commute each way.
They travelled far from the city centre, out into the suburbs and then into a secluded forest. It was becoming hard to stay invisible to the older man as the roads became long and secluded.
Finally, after another 10 minutes of winding road David's car turned into a dead-end with dark, grizzly signs warning off unwelcome visitors or private property. Stevie wasn't an idiot, he didn't drive straight into the lions den, he drove past the entrance, catching a glimpse of a heavily fortified gate and endless walls.
It had looked like a prison, Stevie knew the only other explanation for that much security was in the mind of a paranoid crime Lord. Parking up at a lay-by, the PI pulled out his bag from the boot with all his kit and then grabbed his tablet and binoculars from the backseat.
He was still in his Pyjamas and not exactly dressed appropriately for a hike, but that didn't stop the brown haired man as he began his trek through the woods to find a high vantage point where he wouldn't be seen by any watchmen.
It was freezing at first, but thankfully as Mulhern finally found the perfect position, the sun had risen and was sparkling a warm glow onto his Icey skin as he pulled out his camera and set up for business.
He used his binoculars first and tried to gauge an idea of the general building plan. He grabbed his notebook and pen and started scribbling away drawings of windows and security cameras, armed guards within the grounds and even the schedule of the external patrol.
He mapped out everything he could see and started snapping picture of the building, trying to get a decent shot of the logo patched onto the military-like thug's uniform.
As the day started within the base, Stevie loaded up facial recognition on his tablet- something he wasn't legally allowed to have- he took pictures of anyone who passed by the windows and scanned them through the police databases. That was an education in itself, the majority of men and women flagged up but for the wrong reasons. As suspected, many of them were ex-convicts but as far as the police were concerned they were dead.
"Fuckers." Stephen murmured, loading up a few more pictures and getting the same results, "Guess nobody goes looking for a dead man."
