Dancing In The Dark

With a bright smile Ianto stands still for a moment as his eyes widen "Wow. So many monitors and that console. Fancy"
"Impressed?" smiles the doctor and heads to his console.
"Hm...maybe a bit" Ianto admits although he doesn't want to give him that satisfaction.
"Knew it"
"But the hub is cooler" the Welshman mumbles and joins the doctor.
"So...uhm...do you have any idea where to find Jack?"
"I'm thinking about that since you asked me and I have already a few ideas but I need to check some stuff first." the doctor says pressing some buttons on the console and lifting some levers.

"Alright" Ianto smiles faintly but feels somehow awkward as he just stands around. "Uhm...don't you have any company? Companions Jack called them"
The doctor sighs "Yeah sorta. I dropped Donna back home to see her family but I'll pick her up soon again."
Ianto nods and comes hesitantly closer. He plays a bit nervous with the VM in his his hand.
"Oh yeah...let me fix that" the doctor says and Ianto hands him his VM while leans against the console.
"Careful. Don't lean against that or we might end at the other end of the universe!"
"But you lean against it too"
The doctor thinks for a moment "Yeah fine...I have to say you're pretty good with comebacks"
"Oh I know. You should have seen Jack and me together...especially in the bedroom" Ianto smirks a bit.
"Stop it. Stop stop stop. I don't even want to know. God...Jack had a bigger effect on you than I thought" he rolls his eyes.
Ianto chuckles a bit. Yeah...Jack changed him. In some aspects for the worse but mainly for the better. Since he worked for torchwood he feels as like he got braver, accepted to take risks and be strong.

Meanwhile the doctor plays a bit with the VM and inspects it before he scans it with his sonic screwdriver. A minute later he vanishes for a moment downstairs and comes back. With a final scan he repairs the VM and hands it back to Ianto.
"Battery was empty and other stuff. Now it should work"
"Thank you, Doctor" Ianto smiles and puts the VM onto his wrist.
"Do you know how to use that?"
"Uhm....a bit. Jack showed me how to use it but it's still a bit complicated.
" You'll get used to it pretty soon. I promise"

"Hm" Ianto shrugs and scrolls through a few coordinates in the machine.
"But you know what..." the doctor presses a button and saves some coordinates "I left you the coordinates of the tardis. You can find me in all of time and space now. Just in case something goes wrong."
"Thank you" Ianto smiles and hugs him.
The doctor hugs him a bit surprised back and smiles "of course...just promise me you'll never give Jack those coordinates. He'd annoy me all day"
"Won't happen. I promise. I'll let him annoy me instead"
"Oh dear. Do you know what you're doing there?" he pulls out of the hug and Ianto smiles.
"I do."
"It's incredible how much you can love an idiot like him."
"He's...he's an idiot sometimes but you should see him, doctor. On the outside he may look calm and flirty and maybe cold like a leader should be...but on the inside he's diffrent. I know how he really is"
Ianto smiles a bit at the thought of Jack and gets lost for a moment as he gets stuck in his memories.
"Tell me about him. How he really is because I don't know if I know him so well like you do." the doctor smiles a bit.

"Well..." Ianto stops trying to think about what he could say "when we were alone, when it was just us it's as like he was someone else. It was few years ago as we were both broken and decided to sleep with each other to cope with the pain...but we both knew it was more. Jack started talking about his past. His time at the time agency and with you. With time he showed me sides of him he kept hidden in front of the team...and I'm not only talking about his ass"

"Naughty boy" the doctor pricks Ianto in the side and Ianto lets out a small squeak
"Oi!" he laughs in his Welsh vowels. "You want me to continue or not?"
"As long as it's not about your sex stories and where the hell you two already made out, yes"
Ianto smirks "You have no idea. There's quite a list"
"Stop it."
"Fine" Ianto laughs and continues
"You should know it's not only sex with him, no. We went out on dates. To the cinema. To a restaurant and...quite often Jack loved to dance with me. He put on some slow music and we danced at home or in his office to a slow waltzer, chest to chest, and we danced on in the dark where no one could see us because I used to be a horrible dancer. At the end he stopped and took me into his arms to kiss me, holding me close by my waist.
And at night when we were lying in bed I shuffled up to lie on his chest and he held me. I could always listen to his steady heartbeat when I fell asleep. And whenever I had nightmares he turned me gently around to spoon me from behind because he knows that I like that. He hummed some lullabies from his childhood to comfort me as Jack has a talent to find out everything of what I like and how to make me feel good. In every way. It helped me so much to get over Lisa and to...to fall in love with him. In his own way he is soft and romantic even though he never dared to say the three magic words to me. But it didn't need saying because he showed it to me by everything he did. And everything he said. He told me about his adventures and imagined how it'd be if we both travelled through time and space. I loved his stupid dreams and yes even his stupid comments and smirks. Giving me a clap on the ass or a wink. And even when he flirted with others I knew it was only me who he loved. It's a part of his character and I love it too. For God's sake I love every single detail about him. "

"I don't want to say that's obvious but...it's pretty obvious" the doctor smiles.

"Yeah. It's just him. But the thing that surprised me the most is that even he had dark thoughts, nightmares...mostly about his deaths. He has fears and worries like everyone else. I was the only one who knew how broken he really is...just like me. In front of the team he was laughing and joking but at night...he sometimes sobbed into my shoulder or just held onto me. And I held him, telling him it was alright. His mistakes were always haunting him. His regrets. His past.
And I helped him to get better after every time he died. But the worst thing was that he sometimes just looked up wihtout a word and cupped my face with his hands and his eyes were saying 'we better make the most of it'. I could see the pain in his chest. His duality. Jack knew that I'd die one day and it'll break his heart because he loves me. And I was so proud of him that he dared to get his heart broken. Just for me. And all the times he left me at the hub he just wanted to protect me. And it must have hurten him even more sending me and the team on missions knowing we could die...and he admitted all of that to me."

Ianto keeps quiet for a moment and smiles softly to himself. All these memories of him and Jack brought a feeling of warmth back to his heart.
"You see he is not that much of an idiot as you think he is."
The doctor smiles a bit as like he didn't know what to say
"I guess you're right. I didn't know that and that's...that's beautiful."
"Yeah"

A little beeping sound comes from the console and the doctor turns around.
"Ha! I found the coordinates of his last teleport. Apparently he was on a cruise ship and it...it came around Dirty Harry's Corner. Jack's favorite space station"
"Why am I not surprised at that name" Ianto smirks.
"Come on then. Let's find your boyfriend." the doctor smiles softly and pulls a lever before the tardis disappears from the hub.
