Have you ever thought about your purpose in life? What you should be? What role do you play in this world?
These were the type of thoughts that ran in my mind as I watched my sister prepare for another ball. Another chance for her to be swept off her feet by a man hoping to become her husband. Stupid right.
I do not believe these types of balls are fun how fun is it to be on your feet constantly and having to act flattered by every single man. listening to their never-ending compliments and the platonic conversations that never went any further than what you were wearing.
We were already in the middle of the season and my mother has dragged me to come and watch her dress for every single one of her balls. Now they are talking about all the different suitors she has received all of which I believe are rather boring, to be honest. I can not fathom how she chooses from these bland men. They all have the same personality as water.
Here we are, well here I am sitting on her bed looking at her trying to choose between a yellow gown and a blue gown to wear. Who has the time to be worrying about these types of things? obviously only Avyanna.
"Des, what gown do you believe will look better?" Avyanna inquires my opinion in the matters of fabrics so I am sadly taken out of my thoughts.
" I do believe the blue goes better with your complexion Avyanna," I state
" I do also believe that will look nice on our Avyanna. I am happy that you have a good eye for this Desiree you will need it next year for when you take your place in society," My mother states
" Well, next year I shall just put on any random dress I do not understand the bother in looking for a dress when it makes no impact in my life," I reply
" It does make an impact in your life Desiree, it helps you in seeking a husband," My mother states
" While on the topic of husband's mother..." Avyanna continues as I zone out
Isn't it a shame that a woman's goal in life is to have a husband and then produce children and die? I believe it is torture to get married especially to a man who your not entirely sure if he loves you.
Why must a woman rush to get married during a season because if she is not married at the end she believes that she is a failure? That beyond stupid entirely that the worth of a woman is based on how long it takes for her to get married.
" Des, Your friends would be here any minute you should go and get ready for their arrival," Dorothy told me as she started to get dressed
" Yes you should get your quarters ready for the arrival of your friends also do check on their living arrangments to make sure that they are also ready for them had their maids also remember to tell your friends that you will all attend this ball and that I know of no disease in which you have gotten sick with," My mother told me to do
Thank the heavens that I have been let out of this boring fest of fashion and fabrics. Sadly I have to attend this ball. Unfortunately, my mother knew our tactics of getting sick just before a ball and then asking the maids to bring us food.
