We had been at the castle for 2 months and in those 2 months Avyanna had officially become the Viscountess of Hal in a small chapel ceremony and Gael was engaged to the Prince, Gael's mom Visha is very happy about that. Haizeas sisters, Maylea and Evette, had joined us as well as her two brothers, Ahren and Tereza. Her oldest brother Calian went to war. All of Gael's brothers were there, not a big surprise because they were known for being pussies. Their names are Kenneth and Bastian so things have been wonderful...
No, that's a lie Gael has been a total pain in the ass. Every time she was in a room she just had to state she was going to be the wife to that ghost of a man and Avyanna would rub it in I and Tophs face that she was married to a man with very little land and wealth to his name.
On the bright side, I had made a friend. His name is Cassian. He is a Duke sent by my dad to protect us, he is also The King's bastard child. He hasn't done a lot because we could all protect ourselves and over the last few days, Avyanna had kicked his ass about 3 times, quite impressive.
Cassian was 6ft2 tall and barely towered over my 5ft10 ass. He had broad shoulders and midnight black skin. He was talkative and could make even the saddest of men laugh. He was a great and wonderful man to be around and he had become one of my dearest companions, but I believe that the love I had for him had morphed from just friendship to more.
Haizea had even joked about him proposing to me after the war was over. I was not opposed to this thought but I was not sure if I truly wanted him as a life partner.
We were currently in the library. Haizea was reading a book on whales and Devika was looking for another book since she had just finished one. I sat staring out of the window. I watched my mom and Gael painting and eating scones on the green lawn. They were painting the new flowers the gardener had planted. Avyanna and Toph were practicing archery with Cassian and Ahren. Katara and Akira were swimming with her dog, Dolphin. While Devika's mom and Haizea's mom were having a picnic on the beach watching them and Regulus and Osiris had gone for a horse ride with Maylea and Tereza. No one gave a shit about what the other Himmels were doing.
" Des, are you even listening?" Haizea asked me
" Sorry, I had zoned out," I said looking back at her and taking my attention off Dolphin barking at the seaweed
" I said that a letter has arrived from my father, Do you want me to read it to you?" She asked me
" Yeah sure," I said calmly sitting up
She read the letter out. the letter stated that the war situation was not getting better and the Devika's mother's favorite Palace had been taken over by the barbarians.
" We can not tell my mother anything said in this letter," Devika interrupts Haizea reading the letter
" It seems as if your father does not want you to tell her. If you had let me finish you would have seen that my father had written to not alert your mom," Haizea said throwing the letter into the fireplace, getting rid of any evidence which could hurt the people in this fortress.
" This is not the time to fight, Haz," Devika said spitefully
" So you think I'm the one starting the fight," Haizea said standing up defensively
" Yes, I think you are the one starting this shit," Devika said getting into her face
" Actually, you both better calm down and stop this. We are in the middle of a goddamn war and you guys want to argue about a fucking letter," I said pushing them away from each other.
" Fine, whatever," Devika said slumping onto a pillow
TIME SKIP TO: DINNER
We were at dinner and tensions were high and the room was dead silent. Let me break this down for you. Kairi ( Devika's mom) and Keitha ( Haizeas mom) were not talking to both my mom and Gaels mom, I wouldn't too if I was them. They had not talked to each other since we had reached the Ivory castle. None of the girls had been talking to Gael or Avyanna. Katara had even shouted at them and Katara never shouts at anyone. And surprisingly enough (not) the other Himmels had managed to piss off every man in this fortress. Haizea and Devika had not even spoken to each other ever since the library argument.
" I can't wait for the war to end so that Gael and Avyanna get the weddings they deserve," Visha said stroking her daughter's face and looking at Avyanna fondly
" Yes, they would make such beautiful brides don't you think so?" My mom replied
" Who are you asking that question to?" Keitha replied to both of them
I looked at Haizea and Devika and we knew shit was about to go down.
" I am talking to everyone on the table, Keitha," My mom replied getting a little bit louder
" You don't have to be jealous of us. I know you must be bitter because none of your children are married," Visha said rudely
" My daughters are 19, 18, and 16 respectfully. My oldest son is 20 and luckily enough I was blessed with twins who are both 17. Most of my kids are young and I do not expect them to get married until they are mature enough to handle the burden of both parenthood and marriage as well as govern an area properly," Keitha said to them while placing her food in her mouth
" Well, all of my boys are soon to be married and my daughter shall soon be married. At least my daughter knows how to keep a man unlike a certain someone here," Gaels mom said
" You better not be talking about my daughter, Visha!" Kairi ( Devikas mom ) replied standing up. Keitha stood up as well and calmed down Kairi
" What does the truth hurt? Your daughter is more of a warrior than a good wife," My mom said mocking Kairi
" And what's wrong with being a strong warrior. If Katara wants to be strong and independent then let her," I said in defense of my friend's sister
" You are taking their side now, Desiree. I always knew you were a mistake," My mother said with venom lacing her tongue
" You will not talk to my sister in that way. I will not allow you to disrespect her after the things you have done to her," Osiris said in my defense
" I am your mother Osiris, you will respect me. Look how Kenneth and Bastian act. They do not act like you and Seth ," mom said standing up and shouting
" You want to act like these bitches and their bastards," My mom said to me and Osiris as she pointed to Kairi and Keitha as well as their children
Slap! The sound rang through the air as my hand connected with my mother's face.
