It took about a minute for my brother to answer the phone. When he did, I could hear him laughing before actually answering the phone with a simple greeting. I could feel a weight being lifted off my shoulder.
“Hey Danny,” I said softly.
“Y/n! My sister decided to call me! What’s the occasion? You getting married to some French guy?” He chirped, making me giggle.
“First off, I’m in Italy, not France,” I said, shaking my head. “And second off, can I not just call my little brother to check in on him?”
“I mean, yeah,” He said, and I could hear him hushing the dog in the background. “So, what’s going on over there? How’s your whatever-you-call-it training going?”
“It’s called Hamon,” I said, rolling my eyes playfully. “And I’m taking a break from it right now.”
“Oh, that’s neat--Dixie, get down off the couch--wha--dad! Stop that!--ugh. When are you coming back? Dad’s driving me nuts with this dog! Y/n, he put a dress on her!” Daniel exclaimed, making me laugh a little harder. I could hear him giggling as well.
“Hey, can I ask you something?” I said.
“Yeah, well, I mean you just did. But ask away!” He said.
“Are...are you doing okay?” I asked.
“Yeah?” He said. The line was silent for a moment. “Why? Is everything okay sis?”
“Yeah! Yeah, everything’s fine!” I said, rubbing my eye as I shook my head. “I just had a feeling. You know?”
“Yeah. Make sure you be careful, alright? Dad and I are worried about you, seeing as that everything happened all of a sudden,” Daniel said. “We miss you, Y/n.”
“I miss you too half-pint,” I said, smiling softly. “Tell dad that I’m doing fine, okay?”
“Do you want to tell him yourself?” He asked.
“N-no,” I said, shaking my head. I’m scared that I’d burst into tears again if I heard his voice. I was just in that kind of mood. “I have to get going.”
“Oh, okay. Well, thanks for calling. It was nice to hear your voice again,” Daniel said. “Wait, what---oh, dad said he loves you.”
I smiled. “Tell him I said love you. I’ll see you guys soon.”
“Alright, love ya,”
“Love ya,” I said quietly, before reluctantly placing the phone back onto the receiver. I slumped down in the chair, running my hands over my face. Deep breaths. Danny was fine. I heard it for myself. I shouldn’t worry too much about it anymore. It was just like a nightmare, but I wasn’t asleep. A daymare.
I jumped at the sound of soft tapping on the frame of the door. I tossed my head over the back of the couch and met eyes with lime green ones. Caesar’s lips curled into a soft smile at my actions. He folded his arms over his chest as he leaned against the frame.
“Hey,” He said.
“Hi,” I replied, sitting up and turning on the couch to face him.
“How are you feeling?” He asked, flicking his gaze across my face.
“Fine, now I guess,” I said, shrugging.
“Y/n, what happened back there?” He asked, the smile on his face slowly fading.
“I just got scared and panicked was all,” I said, turning my gaze away. “It happens.”
“I’ve never seen someone have the amount of terror that was on your face before,” He said, making me flick my eyes to him. He was frowning, unfolding his arms as he walked towards me. “Are you sure-”
