“Get her the hell out of here,” Vex spat off to the side. “I don’t need any more roadblocks.”
“Hold on a damn minute!” Daniel yelled, grabbing Vex and spinning them around. “What the fuck is your problem?”
“I’m not a fuckin’ babysitter,” They scoffed, snatching their arm back from Daniel. “I’m not going to watch and make sure Miss Thing doesn’t get herself killed because she’s too attached to the bastard to hurt him.”
I felt my eyes widen. I knew why Vex was acting like this. I knew exactly why.
“Has this ever happened to you?”
“Not exactly, but...I know what this feels like,” The vampire replied, looking up from the golden pocket watch in their hand. “To see someone you really care about turn into a monster before your very eyes. To see them create such madness and utter chaos. We have similarities in this situation, but not the same purpose.”
“What do you mean?”
“The man I was with, would have destroyed the entire world if it meant keeping me safe. Holt would rather destroy the whole world just to kill you later on.”
“Vex, how can you be so sure?”
“I made that mistake of letting him break me, Y/n. I will not let the same happen to you.”
“Why? You don’t know me. We met three months ago.”
“I may not know you as closely as Blondie or Joestar, but it’s not hard to tell a kind soul from a rotten one. I don’t need to know you personally to know your pain. It’s evident in your eyes.”
“My eyes?”
Vex chuckled, closing the watch with a click before replacing it into their pocket.
“A person’s eyes tell a thousand stories, even if the owner remains silent.”
I stood up, dragging my torn palms along the rough ground.
I didn’t care.
I couldn’t feel it.
I looked to where Aaron was, clutching his arm as beads of sweat rolled down his face from the intense pain.
It irked me to even see him standing there.
I picked the knife up from the ground.
What was it about him that made me so weak?
Why did I always freeze like that?
Why could I have hatred in me like the others?
Why couldn’t I hate him?
No.
I did hate him.
I hated him with everything I had in me.
I would hate him until the day I died.
Perhaps it was just the thought; the chance.
The chance of him still being human.
He was loving once.
He wasn’t always so destructive.
But…
That didn’t matter now.
Because Aaron wasn’t human.
He’s not loving.
He’s destructive.
A murderer.
What separates him from the rest of the creatures I’ve ended?
