A/N- this includes a headcannon of mine where Ranpo actually does need glasses but doesn't wear them unless he's solving a case because he literally just doesn't want to wear them. That's why he's always closing his eyes, because I headcannon his vision problems to affect his balance and stuff like that!

"Hmm?" A short, black haired detective blinked open his eyes. 'What just happened?' The dazed male sat up slowly and looked around. Even with his blurry vision, he recognized the dark purple haired doctor beside him.

"Yosano? Where are we?" The detective tilted his head slightly, looking up as Yosano began to stand up.

"Not sure," she replied, brushing dust off her skirt. "We were just reading that author's book a second ago, right?"

The black haired male stood up and nodded, then felt around his pockets. To his surprise, he couldn't find his glasses. "Huh? Yosano, have you seen my glasses?"

"No, I didn't. Wait, that guy seemed to know you, do you have any idea what happened to us?" She replied without giving her friend's question much thought.

"Yes, if I remember correctly, he has the ability to trap people in books. Are we in a book?" The detective began to look around, though it was difficult without his glasses. "I just had my glasses on me, what happened to them?" He muttered to himself worriedly.

"Did you say something, Ranpo?" Yosano looked up at her friend from the other side of the room where she was also looking around.

Suddenly, Ranpo's foot hit something on the ground. He tripped and fell on the ground, landing with a thud, then called over to his colleague. "Yosano, I found a dead body," the short detective called casually.

"Let me see," the doctor walked over to where Ranpo was sitting in front of a lifeless man, not seeming the slightest bit bothered. She checked his pulse, then shook her head slightly. "Yep, he's dead."

"Oh I get it now!" Ranpo lifted his index finger as he got a 'lightbulb moment' type of realization. "We have to solve this murder in order to get out of here!"

"Whatever you say, Ranpo..." the doctor sighed just as more people, who Ranpo assumed were characters of the book, ran into the room letting out cries of dismay upon seeing the dead man on the floor.

A/N- I couldn't be bothered describing some of this stuff so time skip to the interrogations

"Where were you at the time of..." Ranpo had tuned out most of the conversation as he rested his head on the table while Yosano interviewed various people about the case. The detective felt discouraged, considering the fact that he couldn't use his ability in the book world.

     Time skip

The next morning, Yosano was dead. Ranpo didn't really care considering this was a book and she would be alive and well once they made it out. However, this also meant the detective would need to solve the case on his own. With an unbothered mindset, he grabbed the dead Yosano's glasses and put them on as an attempt to activate his ability. Much to his surprise, it worked.

"It was me," Ranpo said steadily. "I'm the culprit." The world swirled around him as he prepared to enter back into the real world. Only during that moment did the detective realize what those events meant about his own ability that he trusted so much.
