They came to our home, the Red Planet.
In that place, far above, between us and the silent eternity of space their arrival was heralded by a pool of azure hued light in the night sky. Unerringly it grew and grew until all our peoples looked up into the sky to wonder at the glory of the spectacle that had been sent to us from beyond the stars. For two days the dazzling sapphire spectacle ebbed and flowed across the mantle of our World and we were beholden to it.
We were not to know, but it bought with it the malevolence of the Old Ones. To our horror we watched the light consume itself, then drag in the radiance of all the heavenly bodies around it. In our despair we looked into the infinite void beyond, into the endless realm of the Extensivity, where only the dead things live. From their desolation, into our existence, crawled three monstrous ships, like titan spiders seeking the life-force of our passive red world. Black and ominous they hung over us, the cooling hulls of their ships cracking like pulled knuckles as the dying glow of the Extensivity shrank from their bodies.
For a while their twelve fingered, skeletal ships examined our planet, with its vast glittering canals, wild rubicund plains and towering temples of stone that shone in the strange light of our yellow sun.
Then they released their spore, thousands of black pyramids tumbling through space toward us. A vast spawn that blackened the skies like scavenging locusts.
Their arrival was to see the final destruction of our Race. But we would leave something behind us. When they returned our Legacy would be waiting. Vengeance would be ours, however long it took......
