Chapter 5

Rhodey and Happy showed up at 9:30 on the dot. There were some meetings and stuff to talk about with them, but they mostly just hung out and chatted. They got Chinese food and talked over a few things regarding the press. There was also a 4th of July party coming up that they were all expected to attend. When Pepper heard that she shot a look at Tony that said i-want-to-be-your-date-at-the-party-but-don't-want-to-tell-everyone-we-are-dating. Tony just nodded at her. But the truth was that Tony didn't want to keep the relationship a secret. He wanted everyone to know that he was dating someone as pretty as Pepper. It seemed selfish, he knew that, but everyone (including Pepper) thought that he was just a guy who had one night stands. He wanted to show them that he could be in a serious relationship. But at the same time, he understood why she didn't want to tell people. If things ended badly, she didn't want the world to be involved. They weren't in a stable enough relationship yet anyway. He snapped back into reality when Rhodey and Happy stood up to leave. He shook both of their hands and let them out the door.

It was around 12:30 when they left. He closed the door and glanced at Pepper, who was facing away from him messing with something on her phone. He walked over and wrapped his arms around her neck. She turned towards him and kissed his cheek. "You know I can't be your date at the party right?" She asked. "I know..." he said, disappointed. "But people will find out somehow you know," he said. "Yeah, I know. It's just that I'm not ready yet. And there's a little thrill in being secretive," she said smirking. Tony smiled. "Did you bring a bathing suit?" Asked Tony. "Actually, yeah I did, it's in my car," Pepper said. "Go get it. Let's go swimming," he said. 

Pepper smiled to herself and started towards her car. She had brought it just in case. Along with pajamas and two other sets of clothes and flip flops. She always came prepared. She quickly changed in the car. She wore a baby blue one-piece with a cut-out in the stomach. Meanwhile, Tony was having quite a hard time choosing which pair of trunks to wear. He settled on red board shorts, playing it safe. A small part of him hoped she wore the same bikini she did yesterday because then they would match. She didn't, obviously, and he found that out when they met at the poolside. He looked her over lovingly and smiled up at her. Her suit complimented her eyes so well. She came towards him and pecked his lips. "Your sunburn faded some," she said looking at his slightly pink stomach. "Yeah," he said smiling. They set their towels down on the lounge chairs. Tony kicked off his flip flops and ran to jump in the pool. Pepper just chuckled and sat down by the water. He grabbed her ankles and pulled her in. "Hey!" She exclaimed, giggling. "You put on a swimsuit, right? Might as well swim," he said. She wrapped her legs around him and his hands slipped to her waist. Her hands went to his wet hair and she ran her fingers through it, combing it back. He pressed his lips tightly to hers. For the first time ever, he let his tongue into her mouth. Her cherry lipgloss tasted sweet, and he passionately kissed her for what felt like forever. He felt so lucky. For so long he wanted this. Now it was his. She was his. Pepper was thrilled. She had never thought of Tony like this. He didn't seem like the snuggly lovey type. He just seemed like a rich guy who constantly f*cked girls. But she was pleasantly surprised at how kind and genuine he was. When they broke away they stood close in the water. Pepper looked up at his eyes. They were brown but in the very middle, there was a hint of yellow. She smiled and looked down at her feet. His eyes were her favorite part of him. She loved the way they twinkled when he said something witty, and how they always looked so soft and welcoming. Then it hit her. "Oh sh*t! You have to be in the city by 1:30 for the last press conference!!" Pepper exclaimed, obviously stressed. She grabbed his arm and practically ran out of the water into the house.
