It was 7:30 and Pepper had her head rested on Tony's chest, still dancing on the balcony. The slow song ended. "You wanna get going?" He asked. "Yes, please. Your house?" She asked smiling softly up at him. He just nodded and took her hand.
They walked out of the building and climbed back into his car. They drove home listening to the radio, humming to the music. Just being with him relieved all the tension of work for Pepper. That was one of the many things that made her love him.
They pulled up at the mansion and climbed out. On the front stoop, he stopped before letting her in and grabbed her hands. He pulled her into his embrace and whispered, "I'm sorry I danced with her," Pepper stepped out of the hug and looked at him. "It's okay. I'm sorry I freaked out," she said. "I love you," he said with a warm smile. "I love you too," she said, pecking his cheek.
He opened the door and they both walked in. "I'll go get you some more comfy clothes," Tony said as he started up the stairs. Three minutes later he came down dressed in shorts and an AC DC t-shirt. He handed her some shorts and a shirt and she headed to the bathroom to change.
While she was changing he microwaved some leftover spaghetti and poured them drinks. He lit a candle and placed it in the center of the table. He had Jarvis dim the lights. When she walked out she looked at what Tony had made. "Did you just do this?" She asked laughing. He nodded and pulled out the chair for her. She sat down and smiled at him. He sat down on the other side and they began to eat.
They chatted about everything and nothing. Work, food, different types of milkshakes, movies, celebrities, the paparazzi, and much more. She loved that she could sit for hours listening to his soft voice and low chuckle and it would feel like five minutes.
He loved seeing her in his baggy clothes, and not in her normal work attire. It made him wonder if she was comfortable around him and not insecure.
After dinner, he took her upstairs. When they entered his room he turned on the lights and they washed their faces and brushed their teeth. He wasn't sure if she was ready for sex yet, and he didn't even know if he was either. She wasn't like any other girl he had ever been with. She was different. She was special.
He didn't want to ruin the night so he just crawled into bed, motioning for her to join. She crawled in front of him. He wrapped his arms around her waist. They were spooning.
He planted a soft kiss on her shoulder through her shirt sending goosebumps down her spine. She loved him more than she ever knew was possible. This whole time, this whole 7 years they had never expressed their feelings for one another.
The man she saw every day for seven years straight, the man who made her stomach flutter, the man who was stronger and braver than anyone she had ever known was hers. She had never been happier and neither had he. They fell asleep there once again. Happier than ever.
The next morning Jarvis never woke them up, allowing them to sleep until around 9:30 am. Pepper woke up first, not feeling Tony's arms around her. Her heart dropped as she quickly rolled over. She let out a sigh when she saw him lying there peacefully at rest. His chest moved slowly up and down and her mouth turned up.
She rested her hand on the arc reactor like she had done so many times before. The blue glow takes away all the stress that is riding on her shoulders. Just simply knowing he is alive is enough to relieve any tension in her veins. "I love you," she whispered ever so faintly.
She planted a soft kiss in his brown hair and quietly climbed out of bed and started down the stairs to prepare breakfast.
