As we walk outside Natasha pulls out her phone and a black SUV with tinted windows pulls up a grumpy looking man gets out of the car "Tony said you and Bruce needed a ride, so he sent me wants me to take you to his place." he says in a matter of fact way.
As we get in Dr Banner says "Oh well do you think he will let us use his lab?"
"You know Tony he is as predictable as the lottery" the grumpy guy says. "Who is this?"
"wouldn't you like to know" Natasha says in a teasing tone. The grumpy guy gives her a look that says no really tell me. "Don't worry she isn't a threat" what are these guys part of the mafia or something?
I hesitate on getting in the car when Dr Banner says "we don't bite" I figure if I die here at least I will have an interesting story to tell in the next life. I climb into the car and sit as far from the others as possible. As I start to watch the city go by I realize I need to finish that book so I pull it out to start reading again.
"what are you reading over there" Dr Banner asks
"Just some science book" I say.
He seems fine with my answer until I notice Natasha give him a look. "what kind of science book." He says apparently she wants us to have some sort of conversation.
"it is about a theory" trying to show him I do not want to talk Natasha elbows him. I wish she would just leave it alone.
"what kind of theory?" knowing I am clearly not going to read much, place my bookmark in and put the book in my bag. She seems to want us to have a conversation so I can make this go in my favor instead.
"So, you are a Doctor but a doctor in what? Physics like my mom?" slightly taken off guard how I changed the subject so abruptly he pauses.
"oh, um yes physics but I studied in medicine for a while and in biochemicals but that wasn't necessarily my best work and" he pauses "well your probably not interested in all that. What are you interested in?"
"Me?" I pause this is the second time they have asked me that today I decide I can be more open with them. "Honestly I don't make many decisions in my life so what ever Mother feels is best for me." Me and my stupid mouth that is not what I should have said.
Feeling the down atmosphere Nat buts in "so you like to read? What is your favorite?"
Feeling this is a subject I can handle I start of "well honestly I am more of a thesis lover not a big fan of books. They just feel so drawn out and inefficient. I like thesis as well because they often are in different perspectives than most books where books lean on common ideologies and thesis are not to your average writing styles."
"You are a more nonfiction kind of girl" Dr Banner says with a knowing look
"Oh no, I am not a fan of fiction the last one I read was the giver and before that animal farm" I sigh "not a big fan of all the distorted utopias. Dystopias are disturbing and to far out of what I like to think about. Plus most of them are based on Communism and I am not a fan of studying patterns in governments."
"Oh well I have a teenage friend who could probably suggest some more fun adventure loving books that aren't all necessarily educationally based."
"I think we would have to get them approved by the warden" Nat says to Bruce. Feeling confused by her comment I look up puzzled. "Didn't mean to offend you but your mom sure sounds like she has a tight hold on what you are and are not allowed to do."
I smile in understanding, then quickly wipe the smile off my face. What if Dr Banner does not approve and tells mom? She would just take away something else and all I have left is listening to music. I'm not sure if she really would be that cruel but I could also see her doing it. Music is all I have left to keep me sane.
