The Curse

Mystic Falls was exceptionally cold tonight. The streets were almost empty and the only sound heard was the water running in the river nearby as the rising moon caste a soft glow on the meadow that Aurelia now stood in.

In front of her was a deep and large goblet carved into a rock as the flames crackled inside it with eager crinkles.

Wind gently brushed through her hair as chants left her lips, her voice melting along with the voices of two more witches who stood in front of her with their hands joined.

Niklaus wasn't here yet. Elijah and Kol stood a few steps away from Aurelia, both on opposite ends, keeping an eye out. Aside from them, Adonis and Rebekah circled the premises to ensure that nothing would interrupt them tonight.

Aurelia had advised Jenna to stay at home after placing a strong spell on the house so that the Salvatores wouldn't be able to harm her. Katherine was there for her protection.

On the ground, bound inside a circle, Elena sat shivering as her body rocked back and forth because of the fear that she felt.

The two viles that Aurelia had offered her earlier, laid in front of her. One of them contained Katherine's blood and the other one had the resurrection elixir.

She was holding out hope that at least someone would come to save her from the wretched ritual before she had to make a choice about whether she wanted to become a vampire or if she wanted to trust Aurelia'a magic.

She was unsure that either one of those choices was a favorable one.

"We're all done for the ritual." Aurelia announced before she looked up towards her brothers-in-law.

"What's the situation with the vampire and the werewolf? This ritual cannot proceed without them." Her voice was serious, almost as much as her expressions. She was all business tonight. There was hardly anything that could sway her resolve to help her husband break his curse.

"Oh, I am assuming that Nik is on that." Kol told her with a smirk.

Aurelia raised her eyebrows, "why do I sense that there is something that you aren't telling me yet?"

He grinned, his eyes darted towards Elena who looked to be seething with anger and hatred. "Oh, just that he has planned something ironical for the ritual. Especially after the Salvatores freed Tyler Lockwood and Caroline Forbes, whom we were supposed to sacrifice originally."

Aurelia narrowed her eyes at him, "I was never going to sacrifice Caroline. Adonis would have hated that." She snapped at him. "I'm glad that we had the time to find someone new before the last minute."

Elijah chuckled, "I am pretty sure that Nik had already chosen his back-ups before Kol abducted Caroline and Tyler."

"Well, in my defence, I did not know that Adonis fancied that vampire. Otherwise I would have chosen one of the Salvatores." He directed the last statement to Elena.
