Facing The Music

✦✧✦

Don't stay awake for too long,
don't go to bed
I'll make a cup of coffee
for your head
It'll get you up and
going out of bed

"I am telling you, Bex, I will not be forgiving Nik. Not for a long time, at least." Adonis said for the last time with a roll of his blue eyes.

Rebekah shook her head. "I don't believe you."

He stopped walking and turned to look at her with an angry pout, "and why the hell not?" He demanded.

"Because, you're here, aren't you? Helping Nik, making sure that the ritual goes smoothly?" She pointed out and he looked away, refusing to meet her eyes.

"I am here for my mom. Because this is important for her." He stated in a small voice but Rebekah wasn't having any of it.

"She would have understood had you decided to sit this one out. Nik would have understood too." Her voice was soft but her lips were pulled into a small smirk.

Adonis gave her a sour look. "I hate you." He muttered.

Rebekah threw her head back and chuckled, "no you don't, love." She whispered before reaching out for his hand as she tugged at his sleeve to stop him from walking.

He turned to look at her with an annoyed expression but she only smiled at him softly. "You care about Nik and that is the reason you're here. You and I both know it."

He nibbled on his lower lip, dropping his gaze to the ground as she waited for him to say something. "He's my father. Blood or not, that doesn't matter. He has been my father for a thousand years and even in times when I was refusing to listen to Lia, he was there for me. Of course I care about him." He breathed, "but that doesn't mean that I am not pissed at him for disappearing without an explanation."

Rebekah raised her hand to cup his cheek, "oh Addie, you are cross with him because you care about him. You have missed him in this past century. I understand that and so does he."

Adonis did not speak as she continued.

"That is why, I would advice you to talk to him. Talk to him about how you feel. Just you and him. And maybe then, he will tell you what happened that he had to stay away from you and Lia. I can't imagine that this century has been easy on him either."

There was a short silence between the two as Rebekah understood how he was feeling while he pondered over her words.

After a while, "I think you're right."

Rebekah almost looked excited, "does that mean you'll finally have a civil conversation with him?"

He rolled his eyes but was smiling slightly, "yes, Bekah, I'll talk to him without any jabs or taunts or slamming the door in his face."

Rebekah giggled and nodded as she looped her arm with his, "perfect. Come on, let's go to the quarry and tell Lia that we're good to go for the ritual!"
