CHASING SHADOWS
"People tend to be a lot more than the choices they make."
Arina scooped the cold ice cream from the tub and poured it into her bowel before passing the tub towards Amaar, across the kitchen island. She dipped a spoon and mouthed a spoon full of ice cream in a single go, tasting the flavour on her taste buds. Amaar could feel her suspicious gaze boring into him."They didn't have pistachio so..." he tried to reason as it wasn't her favourite flavour.
"So you brought coconut?" She questioned, amused.
"Yeah?"
"You hate coconut, Amaar." She narrowed her eyes.
"It's um... Mehra's favourite. So, I'm just trying the flavour for once." He blurted out while scratching the back of his neck nervously. Arina noticed the slight blush creeping up his face and she couldn't hold back her laughter. She let out a wholehearted chuckle, holding herself against the island. Amaar stared at her face, a smile making way to his lips as well. He had missed her teasing and carefree nature.
"Anyways, where have you been applying for your professional colleges?" He reluctantly tasted a spoon full of ice cream and the flavour didn't taste so bad to him.
"Um, I've been applying into medicine and architecture mostly. Given a few tests as well." She answered back unsure.
"Have you been considering moving out for studies, a different city maybe?" He asked and she looked at her hands contemplating whether or not to tell him.
"I um want to move out actually. I want to go away from here, for my own sanity. I need it." It was more of a plea than a confession. He nodded at her in understanding and satisfied with her answer, he continued with what he had been wanting to say all along.
"How does moving out of the country sounds?" She looked at him a little confounded.
"I mean how about Manchester? They have a few scholarships for medicine. You have impressive scores, why not take the chance, what if you make it, who knows right? Plus I'm shifting off campus for my internship, you can live with me. I can talk to mom and dad for you, they'll be fine with it." He waited for her reply. She looked sceptical at first but then relaxed back into her place.
