Arina stuffed the extra clothes hastily into her hospital bag and frantically searched for her shoes around her room while clipping her ID card on. Zarwa shook her head in distaste at her daughter's distraught appearance. "It doesn't look like you'll make it on time today." Arina instantly paused when her mother held the pair of shoes in front of her.

"I'll make it on time, don't worry. I just have to show up. Jane will cover for me for the rest of the day." She sighed defeated. She didn't know how she was going to break the news to her best friend about accepting Dr Aati Greene's proposal. Knowing she was going to eat her ears out and her intrusive inquiring was going to last ages. No one would believe her agreeing to a proposal without ever dating him, or even falling in love but that's what placed them culture apart. She had adopted many fragments of the society she lived in now but she couldn't ever walk further from her roots.

"Dress nicely and look presentable." Zarwa handed her a small transparent bag and she eyed the items peeking back at her. Raising an eyebrow in question at the cosmetics handed to her.

"Men like women that carry themselves well. Look nice for him. Especially today when we'll be meeting him and his family officially." Arina closed her eyes and sighed again. Misogynistic statements as such had travelled down generations and rooted themselves firmly in the minds of vulnerable women like her mother, thus, she couldn't change her mother's thinking and arguing was futile but firmly believed in not carrying the similar mindset further. They were both women on different wavelengths of consciousness.

"Ma! He's been seeing me exhausted, sleep-deprived and in scrubs almost every single day of the week for a year now. Today is no different. I'm on duty but still making time for this sudden meet-up, I'm sure he'll understand if I don't look so presentable." Nonetheless, she shoved the make-up bag into her hospital bag.

"Yes, he may be seeing you like this all year but today is different." She waved her hands at her attire, emphasising her words and making her look at herself questioningly.
