Planets found outside the Solar System are called extrasolar planets or exoplanets. For many centuries, astronomers had suspected that planets orbited alien stars. The first exoplanet orbiting a sunlike star was found 1995. Astronomers have now found hundreds of exoplanets and are discovering more all the time.
