"I think we should break up." Jaehyun looked up at me from his drink, biting his lip. I was speechless as tears started streaming down my face, and I choked out, "Why? What am I doing wrong? I can fix it!" "I just don't like you anymore," he whispered. "You've always been there for me, you're kind and caring, you've been the best girlfriend ever, and I really don't know why, but my feelings for you left," he put his hand in his pocket and took out some money, putting it on the table to pay for our drinks. "I'm sorry, Y/N,"
I walked home alone that night, crying softly as the lights from the shops on the street lit up my face, making me look scary. People walked by me as I stumbled through the streets, glancing at me and whispering, but I was too tired to care. A little girl suddenly ran up to me and pulled on the corner of my dress. "Unnie, are you okay?" "I knelt and patted her head. "I'm okay, what's your name?" "Eunji," she smiled, then waved cutely as she ran away.
The interaction with the little girl just made me even sadder, because she looked like a mix of me and Jaehyun, so our children would have looked like her. I finally turned into my street but collapsed against a closed store's gate. "Why?" I whispered to myself. "What did I do wrong?"
Then I felt someone sit down beside me, and I looked to my left. "Jungkook? What are you doing here?" "Jaehyun called me, he said you might be in this state," I laughed to myself. "He just broke up with me, and now he's worried? Ha!" "He still wants to be your friend," Jungkook said gently. "But I love him," I sobbed, laying my head on his shoulder. "Of course you do," Jungkook sighed as he rubbed comforting circles around my back. "It's ok, Y/N-ah," he said. "He's not worth your tears," he paused, then continued. "You'll find someone much better," "Will I really?" I looked up at him. "Yes, I promise," he said, flashing his bunny smile at me. "Now let's get you home,"
Jungkook helped me through my heartbreak, always there when I needed him (and when I didn't) to support me. Being with him every day, I became very dependent on him, and I soon realized I loved him.
"Jungkook," I whined as moved his shoulder to a more comfortable position. We were watching a movie and I had fallen asleep on his shoulder. He laughed and patted my head, "Ok, I won't move anymore, Queen Y/N," "Thank you," I muttered, half asleep. "I love you..." It slipped out before I could stop it, but I didn't notice, and fell back asleep. Jungkook, though, widened his eyes for a second, before smiling softly and kissing my hair, "I love you too,"
A few weeks later, Jungkook came over for a midnight feast. He had texted me at 11, saying he had had something in his mind for a while, and he wanted to talk to somebody about it. My doorbell rung, and I ran to get it, picking up my pomeranian as she pounced up at the door. "Shhh," I shushed her. Jungkook immediately ran into the living room, landing face down on the sofa. I laughed and pulled him up. "What did you want to talk about?" "I need advice on something," he replied, suddenly looking nervous.
I got it. "It's a girl, isn't it?" I said quietly. I felt a pain in my chest. "Yeah, you got it," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "I really really like, maybe even love, this girl, and I want to ask her out, but I want to do it in a way that she will remember forever," I swallowed my tears and disappointed, because Jungkook's happiness was more important, smiled, and said softly, "Kookie, if she loves you, then she'll remember all your moments together forever," Just like I remembered every moment with him. "Ohh..." he nodded. I lowered my head as a tear ran down my cheek.
"So Y/N," he said. I looked up, quickly brushing away the tear. He took a ring out of his pocket. "This is a promise ring," he said quickly, noticing my expression. "And I promise to love you forever," he smiled. "Will you be my girlfriend?" "That's good," I said, looking away from his eyes. "Go say that to the girl you love then,"
"I just did," I looked back at him, confused. Then a happy realization dawned on me. "The girl, is me?" "Of course it's you," he said. "Who did you think it was?" "I don't know," I laughed. "So, yes?" "Yes, yes, yes!" He grinned and handed the ring to me. I gave him a confused look, as to why he didn't put it on for me. He just said plainly, "I want to save that for later," I leaned in and pressed my lips to his.
Six months later, Jungkook and I were at the same shop Jaehyun and I had broken up in. We were talking and laughing when Jaehyun walked past. "Hi, guys!" he said. "How are you doing?" he asked me. "I'm doing amazing actually," I smiled. Jungkook took my hand from across the table. "You guys are dating now?" "Yeah, we are," Jungkook announced proudly. "I'm happy for you guys," Jaehyun said. "Well, I'd better get going. My mother's waiting for food at home," We all said goodbye. Then we ordered and started eating.
"I think we should go get some dessert," Jungkook looked up at me from his drink, biting his lip. "You're not still hungry?" I laughed. "Ok, more for me then," "Hey, I didn't say I didn't want any!"
