Just like properly functioning, sane, Homo sapiens, I too, hate exams.
Sometimes these exams feel so meaningless. It's like the sole purpose of exams, is for others to criticize you (for people like me, who don't score veryyy well) or to endlessly praise you (for all those studious people I fail to understand). We've many at times cursed the person who came up with the idea of exams 😂.. (it's funny if you think of it, you know.)
To some, exams are associated with intense fear or stress. I've read about people whose hands go cold, they start to tremble in fear, their breathing becomes heavy and so on. I've heard that due to this exam fear, many even fall sick right before the exam. They go blank in the examination hall.
Then there are people, who don't give a damn about exams. They are so cool when it's exam time, even if they probably don't know a word of what's to come in it. They just don't care! They're the kind of people who preach about how exams don't determine who you truly are, which is, certainly true.
Exams don't define you. It only defines your literacy level. It's like a chart that shows how educated you are or how much you know about a particular subject. So literally, there is actually no need to be overly worked up about it.
All that you need to be worried about is how much you know. You see, that's why we even study. To learn more about things...In most schools, once you're in high school you get to make a choice of subject to study further. Many of us get to choose the subject we like, however, some are forced to choose a subject, because of the pressure from family or friends. What's important though, is trying to develop an interest for the subject. That, is what requires effort. Plus, not necessarily are, people who chose their own subject actually happy with their choice..nor that everyone who was forced to choose their subject actually hate it..🤷🏻♀️
But that doesn't mean you blindly follow whatever others tell you, right? After all, it's your life, you have to make the final decision. If you feel that the choice you made or were "forced to make" isn't what you want, take action before it's too late. Always weigh the pros and cons before taking any decision. Talk to people, to know what is better for you.
Remember, things don't always work the way we want it to. So sometimes, you just have to accept life as it happens and hope for the best. Think of it like a long, narrow tunnel. Sure, along the length of the tunnel, it's going to be dark, it's going to be frustrating, you might even start to lose hope. But you know that there is a point out there, where the tunnel ends and the darkness will definitely vanish. There will be a light again. Look forward to that hope!
Now, the end of the tunnel won't magically walk up to you or appear out of nowhere, will it? You gotta get up and get moving!! It may not be easy, but it's going to be worth it!
.....and now I've forgotten where I was going with this chapter 🤦🏻♀️ I like how from the topic of exams I ended up talking about my philosophies about life...that was supposed to be another chapter😑
ANYWAY! So kids, moral of the story is...
Take a chill-pill! No need to stress out too much about exams! Consider exams as small challenges that will help you prepare yourself for the bigger and tougher challenges in life. The other day my school Principal, while prep talking to us before an exam, told us that, having little bit of tension before the exam, is actually a good sign! It shows that you have the desire to do something. But having absolutely no tension like disrespecting your exam and not acknowledging the value it carries.
So let's all develop healthy tensions, shall we?
Until next time,
