Chapter 8
Knock, Knock, Knock. Dad's been knocking on Mom's door for a while now. I call and call her but she doesn't answer her cell.
"She's not here," I said not surprised.
"No," my Dad said. "She's here." He gave a louder knock. It seemed like he has going to punch the door open. I backed away a little. My Dad was scary when he was annoyed. Then suddenly the door peeked open.
"What's your problem?" My mother asked. "People are trying to rest."
"Had a rough night?," Dad said sarcastically.
"Yes?" Mom boasted. "Come in kids." She opened the door wider. Max ran towards Mom and hugged her. A hug for him was wrapping his arm around her waist. Poor thing, so short.
"Bye Dad," I didn't even bother to turn around and say it to his face. I walked past my mom like if she wasn't there. Well, she never is. I can hear my mother whispering.
"You look stress. What happened?" she asked.
"Ask your daughter," my Dad replied. They kept whispering about me coming late this morning. I walked up the stairs of the apartment and turned the knob of my Mom's door. I remembered the last time I was up here. About 3 years ago. Mom and Dad had recently got separated and I was just told I had cancer... I was crying my eyes out helping my mom move in. It seems like it was just yesterday, it still hurts. I used to think the reason she left was because of me. My friend Lola said 'She's just a coward. She doesn't have the guts to face her problems, but you are different from her. You are going to face cancer and make it look like a bitch.' Wise words. I giggled to myself. Lola... I need to talk to her. I know she left me but it wasn't her fault. She's just so memorized with that jerk, Dillon. I pulled out my phone from my pocket. I texted Lola.
Me: Hey
In less than a second my phone vibrated.
Lola: HEY LOVE! <3 I'M SO SORRY! I really am...
Me: I know you are... It's okay all forgiven
Lola: THANK YOU! btw where'd ya go? I went back to look for you but the bartender said you left with a friend?
Me: Yeah I stayed over a friends house ;)
Lola: Ooooh I wanna hear all about it! GOT LAID?
Me: NO! and yeah today we can meet Lion Park? 12:00?
Lola: Sounds like a date! :* Bye Love
Me: bye
I love Lola, we can always get pass anything together. I put my phone away. I looked up and Mom was coming through the doors. Her eyes were red and watery. Was she crying?
"Mom! Guess what? I finally learned the ring magic trick! Here let me show you." Max said skipping towards Mom.
"Later Max," Mom sniffled. "Not before the coffee. Nothing before coffee. Show your sister." Mom grabbed a mug from the cover and poured it in the mug. Black the same way I like my coffee.
"I already showed it to her," Max sighed.
"I bet she would like to see it again," she said
"No, I don't" I jumped in. I hate it when my mom uses me as an excuse to not talk to Max. My Mom shoots me a glare.
"Honey why don't you go and watch some Teletubbies or something." Mom said sweetly with tired eyes.
"Because I'm five?" Max said annoyed. He slumped onto the couch and turned on the T.V. My Mom sighed.
