Perhaps, I should have listened to whoever advised me never to use a song I like as a wake-up alarm. Aviici's Wake me Up was somehow beginning to tick me off... and I love that song.

I was fully upstanding before it came to mind that I had actually fallen asleep on the floor with my left foot on the bed. With a seemingly exaggerated yawn, I swiped the alarm to snooze, trying to hide away my shame. This shame was justified because I had clearly seen the title of the alarm which read, PLEASE RUN. Instead, I followed my instinct and threw myself onto the bed, which based on how cold and smooth it felt hadn't been sleep in at all. Almost instantly, I began to drift off.

"You should remove that alarm if you have no intentions of jogging."

I immediately sprang up, my eyes wide open but seeing nothing.

"Kai?"

"Good morning?" Kai asked back.

It was as if his voice had drawn the blur from my vision. Within seconds, the man whose long dreadlocks covered a large part of his face sitting on his bed and typing so hard it must have hurt, came to view.

"Did you sleep at all?" I asked, dragging myself out of the bed.

"It didn't even occur to me." He responded, and even though he had stopped typing to talk (which is what I think normal people do), his eyes remained on his computer's screen. "You put me to work and I can't seem to rest till something productive comes up."

"Okay!" I said, rolling my eyes. "Clearly, I remember what happened when I returned last night... but for the sake of reasons..."

Kai immediately closed his laptop. "It was about 8pm when you returned. I was already waiting for you with big news. You hate it when I do this, but I had done some investigating of my own. I found out that Kate was enemies with Matthew's ex girlfriend, Amber. They have had a healthy competition but things took a turn. Last year, they were two of the five people who were handpicked and interviewed for the Havencroft Internship. Kate got it. Then after that, she went ahead to date her ex boyfriend."

"Okay..." I said with some kinda clue of where he was headed. "So? You're thinking Amber could be a suspect?"

"That is what I thought. But remember, we have already done this and I know now that Amber could not have actually raped Kate."

"Yes, because she is a woman." I said, then stopped before I began to pace. "Wait, you still think she had something to do with it, don't you?"

"She probably hired someone to do it."

"So you are still up because...?"

"I'm searching social media hoping to find a link between Matthew and the girls."

"You've been doing it all night with no success. There's probably nothing there. However, could you get a phone number for Amber?"

Kai nodded and opened his computer. Then after a minute of typing and some scrolling he announced, "Found it."

"Dial it for me?" I begged.

"Never again. Let me hold your phone."

Reluctantly, I unplugged my phone and handed it to him. With a dubious smile, he put the number on my phone and threw it to me.

I saw Kai's facial expression immediately switch to shocked when I called Amber and pressed the phone against my ear.

"Kofy," he said. "it is six in the morning."

"Kai," I said. "shut up."

There was no answer the first time, and I opted to not leave a voicemail. There was an almost immediate answer, the second time I called.
