After the extensive breakfast prayer and the short breakfast that followed, Sokka dragged Aang away from the main camp and told him the whole story. "And so I think I'm in like with a guy, but guys don't like guys and we're at a highly conservative Christian camp and if anyone finds out I'll be sent to conversion therapy and I don't want to do that becasue I like this weird, fluttery feeling I get whenever I look at him but I also hate it becasue guys can't like guys and-"
Aang cut off Sokka's rant, "Sokka. You can like whoever you want. Love is love and it's beautiful no matter who loves who. If you like guys, that's fine. If you like girls, that's also fine. If you like both, that's twice as many options for you! The point is: Don't be afraid of who you love. Just accept and embrace it."
Sokka was silent for a few moments before nodding several times. "How did you get so wise?"
Aang just laughed, "It comes from being brought up in a Buddihst household. My parents taught me everything I need to know."
Sokka considered this, "So why are you here? At a highly conservative Christain camp?"
Aang's laugh died away. "My parents are gone on a three month journey to various Buddihst temples and monuments in Asia. They've placed me under care of my very old, very conservative Aunt. She sent me here. Said I needed a 'real view' of the world." Aang made a face, "Wasn't like I could really say no..."
Sokka grimaced. "Aang, there's something else. When Jet said he wouldn't tell anyone. He had a price for it. And-" Sokka took a deep breath, "That price, to Jet, is Katara."
Aang stood stock still for a moment before suddenly whirling around and punching a tree so hard leaves rained down onto his shoulders. "No! She'd never-"
Sokka brushed some leaves off of Aang's sweater and carefully inspected Aang's now bloody knuckles. "You really shouldn't punch trees. And obviously I'm never letting Katara near that two faced monster ever again. But if I don't find some way to- He'll tell the whole camp, Aang." Sokka's eyes were clouded with doubt and fear. Aang's resolve was steeled when he saw his best friend's expression. "I'll take care of it."
